Here comes the wonder kid. Jordan Larmour with a first chance to show off his dancing feet but he's hauled down before the line and Italy could be away here.

Mattia Bellini is off but Keith Earls runs from the other side of the field to put in a monumental hit on the Italy winger. In the 80th minute, that was epic.

Conor Murray, Johnny Sexton, myself and the entire crowd in Dublin are on our feet to applaud that tackle. Wow.

Forty-five minutes to kick-off and Twickenham appears so calm. Partly because a smartphone, among its many extraordinary functions, cannot accurately capture blustery wind, torrential rain or Baltic temperatures on its in-built camera.

Eddie Jones lobbed a few firecrackers into the mix in his pre-match media chin-wag earlier in the week.

Top of his hit-list was Wales' relative novice fly-half Rhys Patchell.

The BBC Radio 5 live pundits, like everyone else, have been having their say on whether his comments were below the belt.

Former Wales fly-half Jonathan Davies: "I agree with everything he said but I don't think he needed to mention the word bottle. I think it's a lack of respect for Rhys Patchell. I think he's trying to hide George Ford's deficiencies as a defender."

Former England wing Ugo Monye: "Eddie Jones hasn't stepped over the line, all he's done is shine a light on the inexperienced Wales backline. Is this the biggest game of Patchell's career? 100% it is."

We should give credit to the Italians in this half. But, worryingly from an Irish perspective, they were caught tight again and since Johnny Sexton went off, Ireland's control and management of the game has slipped. Obviously Joey Carbery adds an awful lot in attack but Italy have closed the gap and the points difference is looking a little less healthy.

England coach Eddie Jones on BBC Radio 5 live on his pre-match comments about Rhys Patchell: "Those comments are done and dusted. We are focused on the game. We have had a good preparation. We don't need the media to improve our preparation.

"It would be easier for me to come on the BBC and say nothing. You ask me my opinion and I give my opinion. I don't cross the line, I describe the game as I am asked and how I see it. I can't take anything back now.

The conditions are very traditional Six Nations stuff. Let's see how it goes."

Italy aren't finished yet, they're closing in on a try bonus point.

Tommaso Castello has a pivot and fires out an extraordinarily long pass to Jayden Hayward, who sends Minozzi over in the corner for the visitors third try of the day.

We'll know by end of play just how much 'bottle' Rhys Patchell has to coin a phrase.

In the absence of Leigh Halfpenny the fly-half who's been in the cross hairs this week, will assume the kicking duties for Wales.

The 24-year-old has just taken to the Twickenham turf with kicking tee in hand.

I love the confidence Jacob Stockdale showed there. He had Keith Earls in support but he knew that he could take on the last defender himself and score the try. That's what Schmidt has inspired in his players and it's great to see.

    Jacob Stockdale, con Carbery

An outstanding individual effort. And Ireland's eighth of the afternoon.

Jacob Stockdale picks off Tommaso Castello's pass with Italy trying everything and anything in attack.

The 21-year-old backs himself down the left wing and has the pace to make the line as he evades the tackle of Jayden Hayward. A true finisher.

Joey Carbery continues Ireland's impressive kicking performance and slots another one over.

  11. Replacementpublished at 69 mins

    Ireland 49-14 Italy

Another change for Ireland. Jack McGrath is replaced by Cian Healy in the front row.

His first job will be to get his head down and scrummage. Ireland have the put-in on the half-way line with just over 10 minutes left to play in Dublin.

The direction of the hands were in a backward movement according to the referee. We could see with the lines on the pitch how far it went forward but what the referee thinks is all that counts. Try to Italy.

But Italy have it back and captain Sergio Parisse is storming down the wing.

He flies a pass into midfield, and it looks to have gone forward. But did he have momentum?

Back in Dublin, Italy are into the Ireland half after a set of simple, straight passes. It's the only way they've made ground this afternoon, but in comes Bundee Aki to pick pocket the men in blue.

Wales coach Warren Gatland seems relaxed despite losing his first-choice full-back Leigh Halfpenny to a foot injury. While the swelling has come down, the Scarlet is not fit enough to play.

Gatland says Gareth Anscombe played a lot at full back for the Blues in super rugby and he's confident he'll do a good job for Wales today.

    Ireland 49-7 Italy

    Tony Ward

Delighted for Stockdale but this try is all about Devin Toner's majestic distribution. His hands were so soft and sensitive to offload and then Stockdale appeared from nowhere to notch Ireland's 7th try.

  19. converted try

Converted try - Ireland 49-7 Italypublished at 62 mins

    Ireland hit straight back.

From the penalty in midfield Joey Carbery fires the ball down field and Peter O'Mahony makes it to three metres out from the line-out drive.

And through goes Jacob Stockdale. A fantastic piece of skill from Devin Toner who finds Carbery with the missed pass and Stockdale steams through under the sticks.
