Scarlets suffered heartache at the hands of Leinster in the last four of the European Champions Cup but they were not allowed to be denied in another semi-final tonight.

The Welsh side were utterly dominant at Scotstoun, making a mockery of Glasgow's perfect home record this season.

They head to Dublin for next week's final in Dublin where they will face either their European conquerors Leinster or Munster, who meet in the other semi-final tomorrow.

For Glasgow their season is over. After a flying start to the season when they won their opening 10 league matches, they have stuttered badly in the business end of the season. They have work to do over the summer to come back and compete with the likes of Scarlets and Leinster in the Pro14 and in Europe.

“We needed a quick start to get the crowd out of the equation and we did that.”

That defeat marks the end of Finn Russell's spell at Glasgow. The Scotland fly-half will join French side Racing 92 this summer.

“It was a disappointing result for us tonight," Russell told BBC Radio Scotland.

"That’s knockout footy I suppose. We had a lot of chances, a lot of pressure but just never turned it into points first-half. They made three breaks from simple missed tackles and they finished them off. It was a simple 21 points they got in comparison to the three points we had to work really hard to get. Frustrating.

“We just weren’t clinical enough tonight. The last few weeks we’ve been like that. We’ve missed opportunities and not finished teams off, apply pressure and get the points from it. That’s not just in this game, it’s been the last few weeks.

“We finished 15 points behind. A couple of things might have gone our way with the referee, a few calls there that didn’t go our way to say the least.”

“Not the way I wanted to go out, but that’s sport. The highs and the lows, but for me the last six years has been a high. I’m looking forward to continuing that over in France. Not the way I want to exit but it’s been an amazing six years for me and I’ll take so many amazing memories from the club.”

“The try Scarlets scored just after half time killed the game off. You can’t speak highly enough about the way they played tonight.”

A late flourish from Glasgow but it can't mask what was a desperately disappointing performance.

Scarlets on the other hand were sensational. The superb Rhys Patchell got them going with the game's opening try, with Gareth Davies and Rob Evans also crossing before the break as the Welsh side made their dominance count.

Ken Owens crossed to make the game safe at 28-3, and although Glasgow rallied with late tries from Jonny Gray and Nick Grigg, at no stage did they threaten to overcome a superior Scarlets outfit.

Disappointing end to Glasgow's season, but Scarlets served notice they will not give up their Pro14 crown without a serious fight.

Warriors are now carrying hard and making yards, particularly through Nick Grigg. They are punching holes in the defence, and Dave Rennie will be wondering why it took his men until this stage to start playing like he knows they can.

A bizarre situation this.

Scarlets turn Glasgow over as they threaten the Welsh line and have the ball at the base of the ruck.

Scrum-half Gareth Davies allows the ball to roll onto the goal-line and Jonny Gray, spotting an opportunity, comes through the ruck to touch the ball down.

It looks for a moment as though John Lacey has awarded the try, but after consultation with the TMO, he instead awards Scarlets a penalty.

That looks an iffy call to me.

Nick Grigg has not enjoyed his best game but he cuts an absolute dream of a line to slice through the Scarlets back-line. He feeds George Horne who looks to be taken a little early in the tackle.

Horne looks for the offload but it goes to ground and the chance is lost.

To their credit, Glasgow are still looking to get their attacking game going.

Callum Gibbins is put through a gap by Finn Russell, George Horne snipes from the base of the ruck but when the attack moves into the Scarlets 22 the ball is, yet again, lost forward.

Glasgow's discipline and ability to hold onto the ball has been lamentable.

Glasgow are just incapable of stopping the Scarlets ball-carriers on the gain-line. Allied to their superior physicality, the Scarlets seem to pick the correct option, whether to pass or carry, every time.

It goes from bad to worse for Glasgow as Nick Grigg is yellow-carded for failing to roll away from the tackle.

Warriors are teetering on the brink and Scarlets smell blood.

Scarlets fly-half Rhys Patchell has controlled things so impressively this evening.

His decision-making, kicking accuracy from hand and the tee and his general game-management has been excellent. And his try set the champions on their way.

He clearly enjoys playing against Scottish opposition.
