    Former England hooker

These delays to scrums are immensely frustrating for fans in the stands. I’d certainly be in favour of a time limit in which the front row have to get down.

It almost goes without saying - there has been some front-row squabbling to sort out at the set-piece.

  2. Postpublished at 10 mins

    England 0-3 South Africa

Jonny May is safe as houses beneath Ivan van Zyl's box bomb. Good take.

Owen Farrell returns fire with a crossfield snow-gatherer towards Aphiwe Dyantyi.

Jack Nowell chases up quickly to put the pressure on.

Both teams feeling each other out at the moment.

    England 0-3 South Africa

    Matt Dawson
Former England scrum-half on BBC Radio 5 live

You can see the difference in how they are going to play. The high risk and high tempo approach of England compared to the low risk power game of South Africa.

  4. Penalty - England 0-3 South Africapublished at 7 mins

    Handre Pollard

A clean confident strike to post the first points on the board.

  5. Postpublished at 6 mins

    England 0-0 South Africa

England's indiscipline let them down in the first two Tests in South Africa in the summer and it does again here with two quick penalties conceded.

Maro Itoje tugs down the arms of his line-out rival before Kyle Sinckler collapses a rumbling rolling maul.

Those two indiscretions turn a good position in the South Africa half into a pot at goal from Handre Pollard.

He should make it as well...

It is always going to be tricky for South Africa if England get multi-phase ball because their back line is electric. With Jonny May and Jack Nowell on the wing they are prolific finishers. It has got to be fast, fast, fast

  7. 'First scrums crucial for confidence'published at 15:07 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2018

    England 0-0 South Africa

    Brian Moore
    Former England hooker

These first scrums will go a long way to giving confidence to the inexperienced England pack. We saw England under pressure in the last scrum but they held it long enough for the ball to be clear.

  8. Postpublished at 4 mins

    England 0-0 South Africa

Neither team is looking secure under the high ball.

Aphiwe Dyantyi fails to gather a Ben Young box kick and England have some useful field position.

    It goes wide.

Henry Slade with delicate little grubber through the South African defensive line. Can Jonny May gather the bobbling ball?

Nope, it squirms away from him and into touch in the Springbok 22m.

  9. 'Organised England'published at 15:05 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2018

    England 0-0 South Africa

    Paul Grayson
Former England fly-half on BBC Radio 5 live

England look organised in the early exchanges in defence, but perhaps not as much line speed as they have had in the past.

  10. Postpublished at 2 mins

    England 0-0 South Africa

Mark Wilson picks and goes from the base as the England set-piece stays solid.

A spot of ping-pong between the boots of Owen Farrell and Handre Pollard, Elliot Daly spills a high bomb under pressure from Aphiwe Dyantyi, but the Boks knock on.

Scrum England just outside their own 22m...

  11. Kick-offpublished at 1 min

    England 0-0 South Africa

A cheer from the stands as Handre Pollard checks with his forwards and lumps the drop-kick up to the England 22m.

Brad Shields is up to try and claim it, fumbles but there is a South African knock-on.

    Scrum time, England put-in.

  17. 'No bigger test than the Springbok pack'published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2018

England v South Africa (15:00 GMT)

    BBC Radio 5 live

Speaking ahead of the game, England head coach Eddie Jones said: "It is a great opportunity for a young team. We are missing 400 caps in the forwards so it gives an opportunity for young guys to come through and there in no bigger test than the Springbok pack.

"Test match rugby is about being uncomfortable but our players have good clarity in what their role is. We have got to box clever and we have got to find times to dance a little bit as well."

On Manu Tuilagi dropping out of the squad: "It just changes the centre options. We would have been looking to play Manu at 13 for the last 20 but there is no better guy in terms of sniffing out of a try than Chris Ashton."

On the impact of this result on the World Cup: "Absolutely zero. The World Cup is about the World Cup and today is about today. It is always important to beat the Springboks but it has very little relevance."
