That wasn’t part of the plan.

Castres showing there are not here to make up the numbers as they show a bit of class to release Paris in the corner.

This could be a real humbdinger.

Did I not say we were going to get a shed-load of tries? I feel smug.

Castres go into a maul off the line-out but only make a couple of metres. They decide to go through the backs instead and Taylor Paris finds plenty of space to go over on the right wing.

Benjamin Urdapilleta's conversion hits the post.

Vintage Jack Nowell there showing that devastating acceleration and deft sidestep to leave the Castres defence reeling.

Not only is it just what Exeter fans want to see after a couple of months out, but it’ll give Eddie Jones food for thought as well with the Six Nations not far off

Exeter’s team and fans know today is a must-win if they are to avoid being knocked out with a game to spare.

A defeat would mean elimination, and also leave Saracens as the only English side to make the knockout stages.

If that happens it’ll only be the fourth time that one English side has made the quarter-finals since the tournament began.

  20. 'Something to fight for'published at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2019

    Exeter v Castres (13:00 GMT)

Even if they win today, Exeter face a tough task in the final round.

They must travel to Thomond Park to take on pool leaders Munster but, Chiefs director of rugby Rob Baxter is backing his side.

"I've said to the lads, if we go to Munster with something to play for, you're effectively in the last 16 of Europe," he said.

"If we win this week and we go there with something to fight for, it's probably a straight knock-out match and you'd probably take that in a lot of ways."
