Glasgow head coach Dave Rennie wasn't exactly stumped as to what went wrong for his side today.

"A lack of accuracy, we didn't hang onto the ball for long enough. When we got down their end we didn't do enough," he told BBC Scotland.

"Defensively we were ok but too much of the game was played down our end and we weren't sharp enough."

There were more than a few penalties awarded at the scrum, of which Rennie said: "They walked around the scrum and got rewarded for it, fair play to them they kept doing it. Though I'm not looking to blame the referee, we've got to look at ourselves, we weren't good enough."

Rennie also confirmed Stuart Hogg was affected by a groin/hip problem which resulted in him being withdrawn at half-time. He's now a doubt for their next couple of games. As is Alex Dunbar, who limped off after a leg knock.

A delighted Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill has been speaking on BBC Radio Scotland.

"I think it was a complete performance," he said.

"We play how we play, love it or hate it. We played out of our own half in the first half, we put them under pressure, we didn't let them settle. And that set-piece was unbelievably good today, and they couldn't cope.

"They knew what was coming and they couldn't cope. It's as simple as that. We're a blooming good team, we worked hard and we deserve some credit for the last few weeks because we outplayed Glasgow in both games, home and away."

Edinburgh second row Grant Gilchrist has been speaking on BBC Radio Scotland and is clearly delighted with the victory.

"We're really proud of the effort and the execution of our game plan. To back it up is a really good feeling and we're really proud of ourselves tonight," he said.

"We knew this is one of the hardest places to go in Europe and we knew the size of the challenge. We were really excited to prove we can take our game on the road and win because we haven't been doing that.

"We're far from the finished article but we're heading in the right direction."

It's all over and Edinburgh deservedly retain the 1872 Cup with a game to spare. Stuart McInally's try and 11 points from the boot of Jaco van der Walt was enough for victory. George Horne replied for Glasgow late on and Adam Hastings missed the conversion, which would have secured them a losing bonus point. That's three derby victories on the trot now for Richard Cockerill's men.

Unbelievable! Glasgow almost cross for a second time as Sam Johnson charges through, but crucially his pass to Niko Matawalu goes to deck. And that, will be that.

Of course not. Glasgow huff and puff but Edinburgh's defence is once again outstanding. They tackle and tackle and force Niko Matawalu into a little chip, which results in the ball going into touch. It came off an Edinburgh player last though. It's a Glasgow line-out.

Some changes in the Edinburgh front row. Dave Cherry replaces try-scorer Stuart McInally, and Simon Berghan is on for WP Nel.

And once again Edinburgh disrupt the Glasgow attack brilliantly as some pressure causes a pass to go astray. They counter swiftly and Bill Mata finds himself galloping down the right wing, but he puts his massive foot in touch.

Glasgow get the penalty in front of the posts but the time for taking the points has long gone. They nudge it into the corner with a line-out to come. It was Edinburgh prop Pierre Schoemann who was penalised for offside after George Horne's pass hit him. He is massive to be fair...

From that line-out Glasgow launch into a first-phase move, and Sam Johnson throws a long looping pass out to Niko Matawalu. The little Fijian is halted inside the 22 though, Glasgow still have the ball...

Good defence there from Glasgow. They halt Bill Mata in his tracks and get their hands on the ball and a penalty follows. They clear it down the field and now have a line-out on their own 10m line.

Edinburgh are turning the screw here. D'Arcy Graham is set free on the right wing but he's scythed down 10 metres out. They work it back left but Glasgow have managed to slow the ball down.

Edinburgh have the scrum on the 10m line inside the Glasgow half, and yet again they get the penalty. Jaco van der Walt does brilliantly to slot his kick between the posts and edge Edinburgh further clear.

As Glasgow search for some dynamism in attack, George Horne comes on at scrum-half in place of Ali Price. Rob Harley is also on for Warriors in the second row. Tim Swinson is off.
