Smallsy: That was a big performance from England. Not sure how they kept up that intensity for 80 minutes.

Andy: I’ll be honest..I didn’t expect that. I hoped for it..but never expected it. Class performance from England!

JJ: So yes, England, if you could just keep that up through the Six Nations and into the Rugby World Cup that would be great...

  7. Daly and Slade 'outstanding' - Jonespublished at 19:03 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2019

    FT: Ireland 20-32 England

England coach Eddie Jones speaking to ITV: "We had a good preparation, the guys came together really well and we had a good base from the autumn.

On Elliot Daly and Henry Slade: "They are both good players and I have not seen a back that doesn't make mistake. We wanted them to try things and I thought both were outstanding.

"We want to play good England rugby and that involves attacking kicks. We want to exploit space in behind and I think that is what we did."

  8. 'We started slow'published at 19:01 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2019

    FT: Ireland 20-32 England

Ireland scrum-half Conor Murray said on ITV:

"We started slow. We gave up a couple of soft tries and against a side of England's quality your'e always goiung to be struggling when you do that. Our start killed us.

"We did steady the ship a bit and got back into it but then we were a bit flat coming out. It’s hard to put your finger on it but against England you can’t afford to be flat."

Speaking on ITV, England centre Henry Slade said:

"It’s a great feeling coming over here and getting a win. We dug in today. We had a lot of defending to do. We've put in a big shift over the last couple of weeks in camp.

"We knew exactly how we wanted to play and we executed it perfectly. The half-backs controlled the game well and everyone put themselves on the line.

"It’s the first time I've ever had the chance to play with Manu Tuilagi. I really enjoyed playing with him and who knows? Maybe we can carry on."

England doing a lap of honour at the Aviva and it’s well deserved, plenty of England fans have stayed to salute their team. One sour point for England will be that Maro Itoje can’t join in that lap as he’s hobbling around on crutches and not putting weight on his right leg.

England captain Owen Farrell is enjoying this, he’s stopping for pictures in the tunnel and slapping hands with all the fans.

He was the first England player onto the field and he’s the last player off.

  12. 'England have rugby life experience'published at 18:52 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2019

    FT: Ireland 20-32 England

    Matt Dawson
Former England scrum-half on BBC Radio 5 live

There is a huge amount of humility around this England squad. They've been to extreme highs and down in the depths.

They've had rugby life experience. This will be part of Ireland's rugby life experience now. In the short term, it is no great disaster.

England now are thinking that all those low times that they've been through in the last year were for these types of moments

  13. 'Ireland will be hard on themselves'published at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2019

    FT: Ireland 20-32 England

    Denis Hickie
Former Ireland winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Ireland fans should feel confident after the team's 2018, but I don't think the team have been overconfident. They will be very hard on themselves after that game.

Ireland were favourites last year and they won the Grand Slam then took it into November. They just haven't played well enough today.

  14. What a performance by Englandpublished at 18:48 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2019

    Ireland 20-32 England

    Cian Murtagh
BBC Sport NI at Aviva Stadium

What a start to the Six Nations! What a performance by England! They came to Dublin knowing they would have to produce a huge performance to upset the side that had beaten the All Blacks in November and that’s exactly what they did.

Elliot Daly was immense at full-back, Maro Itoje and the two Vunipolas were powerful in the pack.

John Cooney’s consolation score right at the death could barely raise a cheer from the crowd who have just watched their team lose at home in the Six Nations for the first time in six years.

Student overdraft-sized numbers from Mako Vunipola.

The England prop topped the England charts in both carries (11) and tackles (25).

He could have had a try as well, only denied his score by a marginal refereeing decision.

  16. 'England will be flying'published at 18:45 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2019

    FT: Ireland 20-32 England

    Matt Dawson
Former England scrum-half on BBC Radio 5 live

If there was one team who was going to bloom in the last 20 minutes, you'd have thought it would be Ireland.

But Ireland couldn't get out of their 22 and England capitalised. When you win in Dublin against the second-best team in the world, you are going to be flying for the rest of the tournament.

Dan: Make no mistake, this is an astonishing performance from England. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen defensive line speed quite like it. Lest we forget: Ireland are really, really good.

Emma Gregory: Wow wow wow!! Come on England!!!!

Theo: Such an intense, immense and intelligent performance by England... there’s been a clear game plan to be up and at ‘em from the get go.

There is a deathly quiet around the Aviva because this crowd have been used to Ireland dispatching all comers to this stadium.

England have come to the Irish capital and taken Ireland apart.
