It is exactly the start Italy would have wanted. I expected Ireland to really come out firing and take the game to the hosts, but it isn't happening yet.

Peter O'Mahony makes up for letting Braam Steyn get the jump on him at the last set-piece as the Ireland flanker limpets down over the tackled man to earn a penalty for Ireland.

A chance to relive the pressure.

Rob Kearney comes streaking up from full-back, but fails to take the ball cleanly.

He throws his head back to the skies as the scrum is awarded Italy's way.

Italy have been forced into a change with Alessandro Zanni on for the impressive industrious Maxime Mbanda.

We are back under way. And Ireland have started the same way they finished that first half.

A dud kick-off from Johnny Sexton fails to go 10 metres which just about sums up their inaccuracy so far.

This is the fourth time Italy have held a half-time lead in a Six Nations home match since their last home win - against Ireland in 2013.

It is the fourth Six Nations match in succession in which Italy have conceded 12 first half points.

Italy's four-point lead is one point more than they led by against Ireland at the break in 2013. Italy went on to win that match 22-15.

Protecting the ruck is going to be massive for Ireland but Italy will be smelling blood and they will want to get out there now and get stuck in.

    Turnovers won: 2

Well that was not in the script was it? Ireland seemed so assured when Quinn Roux barged his way over for that early try but Italy are fully worth their lead at the break.

Tito Tebaldi has been immense. Italy may be without Sergio Parisse but they have regained another talismanic figure in the Benetton scrum-half who has been at the heart of everything good from his team.

It's an intriguing contest. I think both teams will welcome that half-time whistle. Conor O'Shea will be working up that confidence in the Italian dressing room while Joe Schmidt will have things to work on.

Full credit to the Italians, they kept it in play. I thought they had butchered it but they got over. It is no more than they deserve and they are taking the game to the Irish.

    They are there!

It was a glorious bit of pick-pocketry from Tito Tebaldi as he snatched the ball from fellow scrum-half Conor Murray and raced upfield.

A kick ahead, Edoardo Padovani is close to going over in one corner..

The play sweeps back the other direction and Luca Morisi burrows through the ragged remnants of Ireland's cover.

    What a scoreline!

The home crowd are fully invested now! There may be banks of empty seats in the upper reaches of the Stadio Olimpico but the supporters are certainly making themselves heard.

A chorus of boos ring down from the stands as they watch replays of Rob Kearney's block on Tito Tebaldi (the full-back definitely appeared to turn his shoulder into the Italy scrum-half) but their anger is quickly sated by that Padovani try. A lost line-out by Ireland that was brilliantly punished. Game on.
