Sergio Parisse was off his seat and clapping in response to that score.

Conor O'Shea might bench him in a fortnight's time considering how well this version of Italy are going.

That is the best try of the three we have seen so far. It was all made by Jayden Hayward who is looking so dangerous from the counter at the back.

Then it was a superb long pass and its a tremendous response.

    Edoardo Padovani

    Forza!

It all started with a botched line-out ball from Sean Cronin. Italy pounced at the back of the queue and Jayden Hayward scampered through the gap and up to within five.

Lovely vision from Tomasso Allan to pick out the man over, flinging wide and long to pick out Edoardo Padovani all alone for a stroll in.

Allan just wide with the extras.

Italy are throwing the ball about with plenty of ambition and a fair bit of accuracy.

They are giving the Rome crowd plenty of bang for their Euro.

One-handed offloads from both Dean Budd and Leonardo Ghiraldini.

Peter O'Mahony gives away a penalty in midfield. Tito Tebaldi, alert to the opening, taps and goes.

The Italy scrum-half is bearing down on Rob Kearney.

He opts to chip and chase. And runs straight into Kearney. The crowd want a penalty for a late hit from Kearney.

Nothing doing from referee Glen Jackson.

Bundee Aki needed a big game today but he looks depressed putting on his big raincoat on the sidelines.

Michele Campagnaro will not enjoy rewatching that Stockdale try. It was the outside centre who fumbled the bouncing restart and he then got burned for pace by Stockdale as the Ulster wing scented another try to add to his collection.

Bundee Aki is not going to return for Ireland either. He's off with a head injury.

    Italy 3-12 Ireland

Ireland's game is usually as tidy and tidy as a draftsman's pencil case.

They are a little shoddy today though in the small things.

Sean Cronin is half a yard too eager in defence. Offside. And Tommaso Allan is going to kick this one...

He is an amazing athlete. One thing we never give him credit for, is his brilliant fend off. In terms of opportunism, is there anyone better in the game at the moment? He is so exciting to watch.

    Jacob Stockdale

Straight from kick-off! Schoolboy defence from Italy!

Dean Budd's attempt to bag Johnny Sexton's kick-off is foiled as captain Leonardo Ghiraldini goes missing on the lift.

Michele Campagnaro knocks on as he attempt to tidy up. Italy stop, waiting for the whistle. Jacob Stockdale is only just getting started.

The Ireland wing motors in for his ninth try in eight Six Nations games, scooping up and skinning the cover.

    Conversion just wide from Sexton.

    Italy 0-7 Ireland

Sean O'Brien gives away a penalty right in front of the Ireland post as he nibbles at the ball after a tackle on Braam Steyn.

Ireland might take that. They were being pressed back by Italy's forwards.

  14. 'Silly penalty'published at 15:19 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2019

    Italy 0-7 Ireland

    Tony Ward

The wind seems to be blowing from left to right, but it's a silly penalty to give away by Ireland.

  15. Missed penaltypublished at 18 mins

    Italy 0-7 Ireland

Ireland give up a penalty about 40 metres from their own line.

Tomasso Allan is going to give it a hoof...just drifting wide of the left post.

  16. Postpublished at 15 mins

    Italy 0-7 Ireland

A lovely scampering break from Keith Earls. Just as the blue shirts descend, he stabs on outside-of-the-foot grubber looking for Andrew Conway (on for Bundee Aki who is having an HIA).

Conway is just about beaten to it by Italy full-back Jayden Hayward.

    Italy 0-7 Ireland

    Cian Murtagh
BBC Sport NI at Stadio Olimpico

Stop me if you have heard this one before but Italy are so often the architects of their own downfall.

At least four sloppy penalties conceded by the hosts in the opening ten minutes and also a lengthy penalty advantage that led to Quinn Roux's first Ireland try.

Take nothing away from Ireland's ball retention through more than 20 phases to send Roux over but Conor O'Shea will be disappointed with his side's discipline.

The penalty conceded count is currently Italy 4-0 Ireland.

    Italy 0-7 Ireland

    Tony Ward

That has been a tremendous two-minute spell of rugby for Ireland, with the variety of attacking play and the number of players involved. Hugely encouraging signs.

Converted try - Italy 0-7 Irelandpublished at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2019

    Quinn Roux (con Sexton)

    He's there!

Nothing too complex about that. The heavy artillery bangs away and finally breaches the Italy defence.

Chris Farrell barn-storms up to within a metre out and Quinn Roux, with a couple of team-mates in his back pocket, powers over.

Simple two for Johnny Sexton to add to the scoreboard.
