Not many Wales sides have come to Twickenham as favourites.

But this team under the guidance of Warren Gatland are exactly that as they arrive with a 14-match unbeaten run and the prospect of being officially ranked the best side in the world if they avoid defeat.

While England's build-up has appeared muddled, Wales have been settled and have picked their strongest side. What could possibly go wrong?!

As the teams meet in their first warm-up match before Japan 2019, Wales will be aiming for a first win at Twickenham since their famous pool-stage success in the previous World Cup.

Seven of Wales' starting XV today were involved in the dramatic 28-25 win that derailed hosts England's campaign.

"We won't take it lightly, but we have to be confident," said captain Alun Wyn Jones.

"There are a few of us who have been to Twickenham and been successful. We are a settled side, but that does put pressure on us."

England prop Joe Marler, who had supposedly retired from international rugby, gets the front page on the programme today.

The 29-year-old starts on the bench.

Wales coach Warren Gatland speaking to Sky Sports: "It is about that continuity and confidence we have build up over the last 18 months and hopefully we can keep building that into the World Cup. Alun is in the twilight of his career but his leadership is important. We are in a good place. We have had a plan for the last two years about what we want to do and hopefully we won't pick up too many injuries and are able to pick from a full squad in a couple of weeks time.

Some have questioned how intense today’s match will be given that it’s just a warm-up for the main event in September but by the looks of the queues at Twickenham station earlier, rugby fans have decided this is one not to be missed.

England head coach Eddie Jones was just prowling across the pitch watching his team warm up. He stopped on the halfway line to shake hands with Wales fly-half Gareth Anscombe before heading to the other side of the field for a chat with scrum-half Ben Youngs.

There is a much bigger picture going into World Cups, you have got to have a squad that knows everyone won’t play but you’ll get an opportunity. At some point in the week you might get a chance, but that is tough to take.

All men and women in any sport at the top level want to be in the team, but when they’re not, how do they deal with it? Being in the 30 isn’t enough, you want to be in the 23 or the 15.

But if you were not in the 15, you were doing the extra training with the person who got picked. You made sure your diet was right, you abided by the team cultures.

What can England fans do to pass the time before kick-off?

There are big screens in front of the Twickenham bars showing the 2003 World Cup final where England beat Australia. Not hyping the team up too much before Japan or anything...

Former England captain Phil Vickery reckons Ben Te'o will miss out on the World Cup after that fracas with Mike Brown.

Vickery told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek: "If you had said to me this question a few months ago, when you look at the way Eddie has continuously gone to him despite having had his troubles at Worcester, not playing, his size and physicality, I would have said 100% yes.

"After what's happened, I think it's going to be a no, I don't think he'll be in."

Vickery also cast doubt over Brown's involvement, but said he still wanted to see the Harlequins full-back on the plane to Japan.

"He's divisive, certainly he rubs people up the wrong way," he said. "Love him or hate him, I think he's a wonderful rugby player. He cares about what he does, that's what I love about him.

"I would love to see him go to the Rugby World Cup. I think he can give an awful lot to this England team in the high stakes (games).

"Will he go? I'm not sure. Do I want him to go? Yes I do."

There was a bit of surprise in the week when Ben Te'o and Mike Brown were among the group of players let go ahead of this match.

It turns out there was more to the story.

The Times reported on Friday night, external that the pair were dropped after an altercation during a squad bonding session in Italy the previous week.

An RFU spokesperson confirmed the incident had taken place, even if head coach Eddie Jones refused to comment on it.

As it stands, Wales are the best team in the world.

New Zealand's thrashing at the hands of Australia on Saturday means that Wales are top of the rankings, as it stands.

The tricky bit is that the rankings are officially updated every Monday. If Wales lose to England today they will slip back below New Zealand and, for official purposes, the All Blacks' near ten-year run at the top of the rankings will be unbroken.

A victory or a draw and Warren Gatland's are on top of the world, looking down on the competition.

Alun Wyn Jones will appear in a Welsh record 135th Test when he captains the team in Sunday's World Cup warm-up against England at Twickenham.

The 33-year-old will make his 126th appearance for Wales, having also won nine British and Irish Lions caps.

He beats the mark set by prop Gethin Jenkins, who made 129 appearances for Wales and played in five Lions Tests.

Warren Gatland's XV contains 13 of the starters from Wales' Grand Slam-clinching win over Ireland in March. There has been a late change on the bench though where Aled Davies will replace Tomos Williams after the latter picked up a shoulder strain on Thursday.

Wales: L Williams; North, J Davies, Parkes, Adams; Anscombe, G Davies; Smith, Owens, Francis, Beard, Wyn Jones, Wainwright, Tipuric, Moriarty.

England were forced into three late changes to their intended line-up with Henry Slade, Sam Underhill and Ruaridh McConnochie out with toe, knee and hip problems respectively.

In come Jonathan Joseph, Lewis Ludlum and Joe Cokanasiga to make up the numbers.

Ludlam is one of two uncapped players in the England XV with Willi Heinz hoping to pin down a World Cup spot as understudy to first choice scrum-half Ben Youngs.

George Ford is at fly-half with Northampton's Piers Francis at inside centre. Joe Marler is on the bench after his U-turn on international retirement.

Probably not.

Usually England v Wales games are grimy, evening affairs full of blood, thunder and history.

Today's match is a sunny afternoon contest with one eye on the World Cup a little over a month away.

But it is England v Wales and it will have some spice even if it is short of the full vindaloo.
