Samoa head coach Steve Jackson hands the captaincy to Bristol Bears forward Chris Vui in the absence of the injured Jack Lam.

Henry Taefu replaces him at centre, with Alapati Leiua moving to the wing.

Former Bristol fly-half Tusi Pisi starts at the age of 37 years and 268 days, making him the oldest Samoan to play at a World Cup.

Russia head coach Lyn Jones names a completely unchanged starting XV for their second pool match.

In fact, the whole squad is the same from Friday's 30-10 defeat by hosts Japan.

The Bears tired towards the end of that match, so it will be interesting to see how they fare after a four-day turnaround.

Full-back Vasily Artemyev leads the side, having captained his country on a record 32 occasions

Russia: Artemyev (capt); Davydov, Ostroushko, Gerasimov, Golosnitskiy; Kushnarev, Dorofeev; Morozov, Selskii, Gotovtsev, Ostrikov, Fedotko, Zhivatov, Gadzhiev, Vavilin.

Replacements: Matveev, Polivalov, Bitiev, Garbuzov, Sychev, Perov, Gaisin, Sozonov.

This is the very first meeting between Russia and Samoa.

In fact, it is the Bears' first Test exposure to any Pacific Island nation.

The Russians are still awaiting their first World Cup win, having lost all four games in 2011 and their first match at this edition.

Samoa have only won four of their last 18 Tests, and have lost their past three games.

They ended their preparations with a 34-15 defeat by Australia.

    Russia v Samoa (11:15 BST)

Here is how Pool A stands ahead of this match, following wins for Ireland and Japan in the first round of games.

Samoa, quarter-finalists in 1991 and 1995, have failed to get out of the group stage in the past four editions of the World Cup.

Manu Samoa face Scotland in their second match next Monday, and victory today would give them a decent platform to build on.

Russia will be hoping to improve on their showing against the Brave Blossoms on the opening night.
