With both Italian tightheads injured we have uncontested scrums for the rest of this match.

Here's World Rugby's rules around uncontested scrums:

    1. Scrums will become uncontested if either team cannot field a suitably trained front row or if the referee so orders.
    2. A match organiser may stipulate the conditions under which a game may start with uncontested scrums.
    3. Uncontested scrums as a result of a sending off, temporary suspension or injury must be played with eight players per side.
    4. When a front-row player leaves the playing area, whether through injury or temporary or permanent suspension, the referee enquires at that time whether the team can continue with contested scrums. If the referee is informed that the team will not be able to contest the scrum, then the referee orders uncontested scrums. If the player returns or another front-row player comes on, then contested scrums may resume.
    5. In a squad of 23 players or at the discretion of the match organiser, a player whose departure has caused the referee to order uncontested scrums cannot be replaced.
    6. Only when no replacement front-row player is available is any other player permitted to play in the front row.
    7. If a front-row player is temporarily suspended, and the team cannot continue with contested scrums with players already on the field, then the team nominates another player to leave the playing area to enable an available front-row player to come on. The nominated player may not return until the period of suspension ends, or to act as a replacement.
    8. If a front-row player is sent off, and the team cannot continue with contested scrums with players already on the field, then the team nominates another player to leave the playing area to enable an available front-row player to come on. The nominated player may act as a replacement.

England head coach Eddie Jones has opted for George Ford at fly-half and Owen Farrell at inside centre for Saturday's key clash with Argentina.

Jones has gone back to the side which beat Tonga in the opening pool game bar Courtney Lawes, who is replaced at lock by George Kruis.

Scrum-half Ben Youngs will become the England men's team's third most capped player when he plays in his 92nd game.

Tne England squad is further boosted on the bench by the return of Exeter duo Jack Nowell and Henry Slade, as well prop Mako Vunipola.

Winger Nowell has not played since injuring his ankle in the Premiership final loss to Saracens on 1 June, while Vunipola last played in the Champions Cup final where he injured his hamstring.

Slade was a replacement against Tonga but did not feature against the United States.

England: Daly; Watson, Tuilagi, Farrell, May; Ford, B Youngs; Marler, George, Sinckler, Itoje, Kruis, Curry, Underhill, B Vunipola.

Replacements: Cowan-Dickie, M Vunipola, Cole, Lawes, Ludlam, Heinz, Slade, Nowell.

Argentina: Boffelli; Moroni, Orlando, De La Fuente, Carreras; Urdapilleta, Cubelli; Chaparro, Montoya, Figallo, Pagadizabal, Lavanini, Matera, Kremer, Desio

Replacements: Creevy, Vivas, Medrano, Alemanno, Lezana, Ezcurra, Mensa, Delguy

Italy have got to try and make the first phase attacks count and try and bruise the South African defence.

They've not been clinical in that area and as a result the South African defence has grown stronger and stronger off the back of it.

So the gong tolls and South Africa kick the ball away for half-time.

The Springboks have been in control, but the move to uncontested scrums has blunted one of their biggest weapons.

However, you have to think the South African attack will click up a gear after the break as they have threatened a few times so far.

But those first-half tries from winger Cheslin Kolbe and hooker Bongi Mbonambi have the Springboks heading for victory.

South Africa have eight or nine phases of play, but to Italy's credit they defend well and win a penalty which they kick clear.

Andrew Priestley: Italy will be more than happy with the uncontested scrum situation given SA’s dominance in the set-piece.

Samuel Bliss: How much communication from the ref is too much? When you’ve got Wayne Barnes yelling ‘Sergio, stop. Cheers mate’ then surely we’ve crossed a line.

So we're now in a situation where we will have uncontested scrums for the rest of the game.

Italy's first choice tighthead prop Simone Ferrari lasted two minutes with a hamstring injury while replacement Marco Riccioni has failed a head injury assessment.

With no other players able to play at tighthead referee Wayne Barnes has no choice but to call for uncontested scrums, which will frustrate this powerful South African pack.
