Now Townsend brings on the reinforcements, men who will almost certainly start against Japan on Sunday, for a 20-minute rumble.
On come Stuart McInally, WP Nel and Grant Gilchrist for Gordon Reid, George Turner and Scott Cummings

They're having a great time out there tonight. I'm sure most of these guys won't want to come off. Great combination again from the Horne brothers and a great finish.
George Horne
It's a hat-trick for George Horne! It's devastating counterattack again. George Horne scoops up a bouncing ball from another Russian garryowen just outside the Scottish 22.
He cleverly identifies the space up the short side and sends brother Pete racing clear. The elder Horne finds Henry Pyrgos tracking inside, and in typically predatory fashion, George Horne follows the move, takes the pass from Pyrgos and races all the way clear to bag his treble.
He becomes the fourth Scot to score a World Cup hat-trick - the others being Gavin Hastings, John Jeffrey and Ally Hogg.
For the first time in seven attempts, Adam Hastings can't add the extras.

Quote MessageGreat finish, absolutely outstanding. You could hear the crowd rising in voice as they thought it might've gone out. That takes him to fourth in the all-time Scottish records with 20 tries, one ahead of Stuart Hogg.
Tommy Seymour
Beautiful, beautiful try. Blair Kinghorn guides a delightful grubber kick in behind the Russia defence with such delicate precision.
The ball rolls over the try-line, stays clear of the touchline just long enough for Tommy Seymour to leap on it. That's the winger's first try in nine Tests.
Adam Hastings slots a brilliant conversion from wide on the right.
Scotland 35-0 Russia

Quote MessageThat was a very well worked maul. That will give Danny Wilson - the forwards coach - a lot of joy as everything so far has been about Graham, Hastings and Horne.
George Turner
Happy birthday, George Turner! The hooker turned 27 yesterday and gets the perfect present by scorching off the back of a driving maul through non-existent fringe defence to score.
That's Turner's fifth try in nine Tests.
Adam Hastings bangs over the conversion.
Scotland 28-0 Russia
Adam Hastings weights a glorious Finn Russell-esque pass tantalisingly over the head of an advancing Russian into John Barclay's grasp.
A few phases later, it looks like Blair Kinghorn is going to gallop over, but the loping full-back tries to put Tommy Seymour in with a back-hand off-load that flies into touch.

Quote MessageThat was all Darcy Graham! In a way I wish he dummied and went under the posts because that was Darcy Graham's try!
George Horne
Outstanding. Absolutely outstanding. There's the bonus point.
A loose kick from Russia compounded by a hopelessly lacklustre kick-chase.
Give Darcy Graham the ball in space, with some lumbering plodders loosely advancing on him, and you're in trouble.
Off goes the little peroxide dynamo, searing and slaloming past three men before sending George Horne scampering in for his second try.
Sumptous counterattack. Adam Hastings converts.
That's Graham's last act of the match, too. On comes Henry Pyrgos for his first outing of the tournament, and Horne will shift out to the wing.
Scotland 21-0 Russia
Frustration for the Russians as a line-out just outside the Scotland 22 is fumbled. They've had so little ball in the Scottish half.
After being treated to some of the Proclaimers' greatest hits during the break, Flower of Scotland is now pealing around the stadium.
Scotland 21-0 Russia
Gregor Townsend has made another change at the break, Simon Berghan replacing Zander Fagerson at tight-head prop.
Scotland 21-0 Russia
Here we go again. Blair Kinghorn gets the second half under way, but fails to send the restart the requisite 10m. Not his finest effort, that.

Right then, what does the second half have in store for us?
Which changes should Gregor Townsend make to keep his squad fresh?

Quote MessageI really want to see Scotland go through the gears in the second half. I don't want to see them get the fourth try and stop or wrap things up. You look at what New Zealand did to Namibia [New Zealand won 71-9], getting confidence by scoring tries is the sort of intangible for the squad going into a game on Sunday which is just massive. It could really help with the mentality.

Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland
Quote MessageA lot of handling errors and lack of accuracy. The forwards have been reasonably dominant, their breakdown work has been accurate and the set-piece is going well. The down side for the forwards is that most of them realise they are not going to play against Japan. The second-rows and props certainly won't be starting. They've got to go out and show Gregor Townsend they can still do the job if needed.

Quote MessageScotland have played a territory game and looked to pin Russia deep in their own half. For all Russia's hustle and bustle, you can see why they've only scored one try in this World Cup. They don't have any game-breakers.
HT: Scotland 21-0 Russia
The half-time stats show Darcy Graham beat five defenders in the opening 40 minutes, and made 82m from nine carries. Very decent numbers, those.

Quote MessageIt's been a terrific performance so far. I didn't expect them to be this sharp. It's been an excellent first 40 minutes. You can see more tries in this.
