  1. 'Scrappy' Scotlandpublished at 09:03 British Summer Time 9 October 2019

    HT: Scotland 21-0 Russia

    Rory Lawson
Former Scotland captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

    Quote Message

Gregor Townsend will generally be happy at half time, but the last 10 minutes has been a bit scrappy and these guys will be disappointed with that. You've got to try and come above that.

  2. Half-time Scotland 21-0 Russiapublished at 09:01 British Summer Time 9 October 2019

Not quite. Scotland power to within a couple of yards of the try line, but as George Horne dummies and tries to burrow over, he's smashed by two Russians and loses the ball forward.

Still, a very satisfying first half from a Scottish perspective. Two tries from Adam Hastings and another from Horne have Gregor Townsend's men firmly in the driving seat.

They've varied their attacking strategy really well, and kept Russia scoreless. They should really have a bonus point in the bag too, but you have to imagine it's only a matter of time.

  3. Gordy's goose-steppublished at 40 mins

    Scotland 21-0 Russia

Did my eyes deceive me, or was that something of an Ayrshire goose-step from Gordon "David Campese" Reid?!

Scotland banging at the Russian door as the clock ticks red.

  4. Hastings on the hoofpublished at 39 mins

    Scotland 21-0 Russia

Another sniping break from Adam Hastings up the left flank, who escapes the clutches of a couple of Russians before attempting to kick up the touchline for Darcy Graham to chase.

He's being tackled as he swings his left boot at the ball, though, and it whizzes way out of play.

Big Scott Cummings gets his paws on the ball from the line-out, though, and wins Scotland a scrum. One more chance to bag the fourth try before half-time.

  5. Defensive diligencepublished at 38 mins

    Scotland 21-0 Russia

According to ESPN's live stats, Scotland have missed only one tackle from 45 attempts.

They haven't had to do masses of defending but that's still a brilliant figure.

  6. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Scotland 21-0 Russia

Rumbling deep into Russian territory again come the Scots, but this time there's a wee knock-on from Pete Horne 15m away from the opposition posts.

Just under five minutes to go until the break. Can Scotland get the bonus-point try before the half-time whistle?

Give us a thumbs-up for yes, thumbs-down for no...

  7. A third each for Bradbury, Ritchie and Brown?published at 34 mins

    Scotland 21-0 Russia

    Former Scotland scrum-half

    Quote Message

This is really interesting. I wonder if they are splitting this game three ways between Bradbury, Ritchie and Brown

  8. Scotland make an early changepublished at 33 mins

    Scotland 21-0 Russia

Interestingly, Scotland have made what appears to be a tactical substitution. Fraser Brown off, Magnus Bradbury on.

It doesn't look or sound like Brown is injured, which suggests this is a pre-planned change. Brown gets 30 minutes before his likely role on the bench on Sunday, Bradbury gets 50 minutes to rampage around against a tiring defence.

Expect to see a few more tweaks as Gregor Townsend looks to keep his big men fresh for the showdown against Japan.

  9. Laser kicking from Scotlandpublished at 32 mins

    Scotland 21-0 Russia

Scotland are mixing up their play really cleverly here. They're busting tackles and shifting the ball crisply in hand, but there have been some glorious kicks to the corners too.

Pete Horne with another cracker to within 10m of the Russian line, before Scotland infringe at the set-piece.

  10. 'Nyet!'published at 30 mins

    Scotland 21-0 Russia

Big fan of Wayne Barnes screaming "Nyet!" at Russian burglars who linger on the ball a little too long at the breakdown.

Barnes is one of the world's finest referees and does tend to make a point of speaking to players in their native tongue.

  11. Who can claim a place for Japan?published at 30 mins

    Scotland 21-0 Russia

    Andy Nicol
    Former Scotland scrum-half

    Quote Message

This is the sort of game where you can bag a fourth try then have a little bit of fun. Gregor Townsend probably knows his starting line-up, but can any of these Scotland players force their hand for the next game against Japan?

  12. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Scotland 21-0 Russia

As my gushing praise of Adam Hastings hits positively torrential levels, the young pivot sends a punt out on the full.

Fortunately for Scotland, the forwards soon hoover the ball up at the breakdown, and Pete Horne booms a sublime kick into touch in the Russian 22.

It's a little bit naive from Russia, you'll never score an easier try. Scotland 21 points to the good.

    George Horne

Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear.

I'm afraid that is a hideous shocker from Dmitry Perov, who takes the ball from the line-out and zips it straight into the arms of George Horne in the Russian in-goal area.

It's predatory stuff from young Horne, who is a try machine for Glasgow Warriors, but he should never have been in a position to score it.

Adam Hastings adds the extras. One more try needed for a Scotland bonus point.

  15. Hastings in the groovepublished at 20 mins

    Scotland 14-0 Russia

Adam Hastings is having a whale of a game. Like an NFL quarterback, he hangs back in the pocket, jockeys, then releases his outside backs.

The ball is worked back to him and he probes an outrageous kick into touch from 50m right to the corner flag. Magnificent.

  16. converted try

Converted try Scotland 14-0 Russiapublished at 19 mins

    Adam Hastings

Wow, that was absolutely bonkers! Some harem-scarem play with Russia attacking, then losing it forward in the Scotland 22, before the Scots come searing downfield.

Adam Hastings stabs a kick in behind the Russian defence on halfway, hacks it on, and it screws wickedly beyond the hapless Vasily Artemyev for the Scotland fly-half to flop on it, score, and convert.

  17. 'Composed' Scotlandpublished at 08:35 British Summer Time 9 October 2019

    Scotland 7-0 Russia

    Andy Nicol
    Former Scotland scrum-half

    Quote Message

You've seen a composed Scottish performance so far. My worry would be they would try too hard, too early but those views have been quashed.

  18. Watching on from Alaskapublished at 08:35 British Summer Time 9 October 2019

    Scotland 7-0 Russia

Graham Hogg is following Scotland all the way from Alaska. Reckon he could be pretty merry by half-time.

He says on Twitter: "Had to endure a 15 minute country and western advert on Alaskan TV as a warm up to Scotland Vs Russia - here's hoping it is worth it! Whisky in hand and almost midnight here. Come on Scotland #bbcsportscot, external"

  19. converted try

Converted try Scotland 7-0 Russiapublished at 08:31 British Summer Time 9 October 2019

    Adam Hastings

Lovely 8-9-10 manoeuvre from Scotland. Ryan Wilson picks and runs right, feeds George Horne, and the scrum-half gives Adam Hastings a crack at the line.

The pivot does brilliantly to dummy, step, and power his way through the tackles and reach the whitewash, before converting his own try.

Hastings scoring points for Scotland in a Rugby World Cup. Sounds familiar, that...

  20. Fagerson flexespublished at 14 mins

    Scotland 0-0 Russia

Big scrum from the Scottish pack, shunting Russia backwards and Nikita Vavilin fumbles forward under pressure.

That was a monumental shove from Zander Fagerson on the tight-head side.

Wonderful attacking platform for the Scots now.
