    Ireland 40-5 Samoa

Ireland have been totally dominant and they have had 94% territory in the second-half.

You would not be able to tell they're a man down by looking at the stats.

    Joe Schmidt will be pleased!

Samoa couldn't stand any more. They've been under pressure for a really sustained period of time. All came from the same scrum as last time, channel one ball, they went down the short side and it was pick and go, pick and go.

We're seeing really effective leech play, which is having one supporting player who doesn't have the ball driving that primary carrier. Ireland always have one or two leech players in there.

    It was coming.

Ireland keep it in the forwards and CJ Stander picks up from the base of the ruck to ground it surge over the line.

Jean Kleyn gets a bit of help from Scannell who pats him on the backside to let him know he's got the support and drives him over. My guess is that he got the ball down but there's so many bodies there that you couldn't be sure.

The referee wasn't quite sure but I think he's justified.

It's no try and Kane Leaupepe has got away with one as the referee just awards a penalty.

Ireland, who have not left the Samoan half for over 10 minutes, opt for the scrum.

Jean Kleyn gets over the line but the referee takes it upstairs as he isn't clear on the grounding.

There is also a late hit on CJ Stander by Kane Leaupepe in the build-up, so that is being checked too.

It looks like a yellow card for the lock.

The ball shoots out of the scrum and the blue shirts swarm around Jordan Larmour to hold the full-back upright.

Samoa are awarded the scrum and they have the chance to relieve the pressure, but the Irish pack wrestle back control to win the penalty with a huge shove.

Joey Carbery boots the ball to touch and Ireland will go again.

A video of Ireland players literally lifting up part of the pitch and tucking the ball underneath did the rounds on social media yesterday, prompting lots of queries about the condition of the turf.

So far, it has held up remarkably well with the ground staff doing some quick work at the half-time interval to patch up a couple of rough patches.

From where it was yesterday, the team responsible for the pitch in Fukuoka have done a great job overnight.

The Irish forwards tuck it up the jumper and have another go from close range, but Samoa keep them out.

TJ Ioane is penalised again, this time for not rolling away, and Ireland can have another go from a five metre scrum.

TJ Ioane is offside and the referee orders Jack Lam to have a word with his players to improve their discipline.

Joey Carbery pops the ball into touch and Ireland will try to exercise their dominance in the line-out once more.

That was an incredible period of defence from the Samoan side. They're in danger of a yellow card if they keep on infringing but you can't discount their defence on the goal line, they're giving nothing to Ireland easy, for phase after phase after phase.

That conversion is Johnny Sexton's last involvement as he is replaced by Joey Carbery.

I imagine Joe Schmidt will be wrapping his fly-half in cotton wool as attention begins to turn to the quarter-final.

That pass was absolutely beautiful. There's numbers down the short side but a super flat pass from Conor Murray, right into the hands of Jordan Larmour. It's a very clever move Ireland have been using for a number of years, you bring up the last man on the end of the line in a position that's much flatter than you expect.

It goes across everybody's face including Keith Earls who's running a beautiful line to hold off the Samoan defence. Larmour hugs the touchline, goes to him as flat as you can imagine and a great finish.
