Samoa have been buoyed by their numerical advantage and the crowd are behind them.

Ireland need to regain control and repel the onslaught now.

Nic Berry got that perfectly correct. There was a high degree of force direct to the head and the Samoan player wasn't ducking into the tackle. Bundee Aki will play no further part.

So far Robbie Henshaw has looked very rusty in midfield - couple of dropped balls, couple of passes to the deck. He'll have to step up.

    Ireland 21-5 Samoa

Ireland are reduced to 14 men as Bundee Aki is sent off for a tackle direct to the head.

He doesn't drop low enough in the tackle and he follows through with a big hit on the Samoa fly-half.

He tries to wrap his arms and it's unfortunate, but there is no mitigation and Aki has to walk.

The responsibility is on the tackler and maybe the other player going to ground is a mitigating factor but it doesn't absolve the tackler of his responsibility. It was high, there's a lot of force there. I think that's a red card.

Play is stopped as the referee reviews the footage from a tackle on Ulupano Seuteni from Bundee Aki.

    The Irish centre looks nervous.

That was a very impressive carry. Wave after wave in the Irish 22 but ultimately Jack Lam should have been stopped, he carried the ball over the top of Rory Best - maybe not quite getting the support from his team-mates. That's something you expect from Samoa.

A little bit of a concentration loss from Ireland. No doubt they're going to score four tries or more but to give up a try really with Samoa's first foray into the 22, the coach won't be happy with that.

    Jack Lam

    Well well.

Samoa roll through the phases and Jack Lam smashes his way to the line.

That was the loudest cheer of the night as the locals realise Ireland are in control, but Henry Taefu misses the conversion.

Samoa nearly hit back instantly as Kane Leaupepe latches on to a loose pass by Ireland.

The towering lock is hauled down after making huge yards and Samoa are close to the line now.

  9. 'Ireland playing the game they want to'published at 12:16 British Summer Time 12 October 2019

    Ireland 21-0 Samoa

All very comfortable so far. Ireland are playing the game they want to, turning the ball over almost at will and Samoa seem to be struggling. They look a fatigued side.

That try highlights the need to get the ball out to the wider channels. Jordan Larmour's pace really did the damage. He had options either side, goes back inside to Sexton, who looks very happy with himself.

    Johnny Sexton (con Sexton)

Ireland play a simple one-two and it's far too easy.

Johnny Sexton feeds the ball to Jordan Larmour, who bursts through a gap in the Samoan defence, before throwing it back inside to Sexton.

The fly-half runs in try number three and kicks the extras from the tee.

    Wallop!

This is a full-blooded Test match and you can hear the tackles on the referee's microphone.

Robbie Henshaw knocks the ball on and Samoa will have the platform from the scrum just inside their own half.

Samoa win the penalty and kick the ball to touch.

But they lose the ball in the line-out as Ireland claim the ball, to the cheers of their supporters.

It's all going their way in the opening stages.

Bundee Aki throws the pass wide and Alapati Leiua is quick off the line to try and intercept the ball.

The centre knocks on and he is unlucky to avoid a yellow card, but Ireland let Samoa off the hook as Johnny Sexton kicks the penalty over the dead ball line.

    Scrum to Samoa.

Not what you'd expect from a traditional front row union player, that was an incredible carry from Tadgh Furlong.

It's looking very comfortable. The expectation would be that the first-up defence from Samoa wouldn't allow that to happen. We're ten minutes into the game and Furlong bounced off two and broke two more tackles. It was his ferocity that carried him over the line.

    Tadhg Furlong (con Johnny Sexton)

Ireland are half-way to the bonus point.

They build a platform after retaining the ball at the line-out and there is no stopping Tadhg Furlong from there.

The prop shrugs off a couple of tackles to power over from close range and Ireland double their lead through the boot of Johnny Sexton.

Now it's Seilala Lam's brother Jack who concedes a penalty as he hits Robbie Henshaw off the ball.

Ireland pop the ball into touch and they will have the line-out, deep in the Samoan half.

  19. 'Stockdale did drop into it'published at 11:58 British Summer Time 12 October 2019

    Ireland 7-0 Samoa

    Shane Horgan
Former Ireland wing on BBC Radio 5 Live

Stockdale did drop into it a little bit but I think there was direct connection with the head and jaw. The force may not have been to the maximum degree and I think that's the only reason we're not seeing Lam off the pitch for the entire match.

Seilala Lam is a lucky boy.

The hooker makes direct contact with Jacob Stockdale's chin after a big tackle.

But the Samoan is given the benefit of the doubt as he bends his knees slightly.

    It's just a yellow.
