BBC Sport Wales at Oita Stadium

Are these the 10 most important minutes of Warren Gatland's reign as Wales coach?

They could be his last 10 minutes in charge.

The tension in Oita is unbearable.

Wales rumble up to within 10 metres...but it has gone forward from Dillion Lewis!

Squeals of delight from the French pack, puffed cheeks from the men in red.

France get their maths all wrong.

They gamble that, down to 14 men, their scrum can hold strong with just seven men.

They were badly wrong. Wales obliterate the set-piece, plunder the ball and relieve pressure.

The men in red need points though.

    Nine minutes to go.

    Wales 13-19 France

Dan Biggar tries the sort of tackle that Rhys Patchell deployed on Samu Kerevi in the pool stages. With less success.

Virimi Vakatawa has been sent down that channel at speed and ploughs straight though the Wales fly-half like a pair of saloon doors.

France within 10m. Where is the ball? It is coming back slow. And referee Peyper decides it is a blue scrum...

    Wales 13-19 France

    France take to the skies.

A snowy up and under from Camille Lopez and Damian Penaud provides the furious chase.

The wing does just enough to put off Liam Williams as the full-back tries to claim it. Knock-on red, put-in blue on the Wales 22m.

Thirteen minutes remaining, six points the difference.

    Who have you got?

  7. 'Brilliant defence by Huget'published at 09:50 British Summer Time 20 October 2019

    Wales 13-19 France

    Tom Shanklin
Former Wales international on BBC Radio 5 Live

Brilliant defence by Huget there to get in the passing line of George North, who's trying to do a basketball pass over the top. Huget has just snuffed out a great Welsh attack there.

Tomos Williams with a twinkle-toed little dance into the France 22m...

But Yoann Huget comes up with a bold defensive play, rushing up to cut off the route to the outside man and smothering George North's slung pass over the top.

Fifteen minutes left. Wales, playing 14 men, have not scored since the 54th minute.

    Wales 13-19 France

Wales throw on Rhys Carre, Dillion Lewis and Adam Beard in the engine room. Can they shovel enough of the heavy stuff to get Wales ahead before the final whistle?

    Wales 13-19 France

Damian Penaud drops a drop-out on halfway. Can he blame the sweat for that one? Don't think that is an option in the knock-out stages.

France infringe in their attempt to recover the situation and Dan Biggar punts down to the blue 22m from the penalty.

Small Man Peaky: Something tells me that Vahaamahina may not be the sharpest tool in the toolbox. Second time he's come up with a potentially game losing play against Wales in one year. Then again, if there's one team that could win this sort of game a man down, it is France.

Zeb Bowyer: Wales are fortunate they are playing against a French team that have just self destructed. What a ridiculous red card that is. Turning point.

More street smarts from France, dialling down the ambition and playing it more prudent.

Maxime Medard rifles a low, skidding kick into the Wales 22m finding touch and pinning Warren Gatland's side back.

  14. 'Welsh fans should not be worried'published at 09:43 British Summer Time 20 October 2019

    Wales 13-19 France

    Matt Dawson
England World Cup winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

The reality is that Welsh fans should not be worried about this game. They've got all angles covered. France haven't got a clue what they're doing. All they're doing is saying 'give it to Vakatawa will you?' and seeing what he can do.

I might be sounding over-dramatic but every maul, every ruck, you could put a 20 metre blanket over the whole French side. They are not going to be a threat other than Vakatawa.

Camille Chat drops back into the drop-goal slot...

No, France are running it up the short side. Virimi Vakatawa finds a soft shoulder, gets an arm free and flips an offload towards Damian Penaud. But the wing, with Josh Adams in close company, cannot gather it.

He knocks on and Wales will have put-in to the scrum, 10m from their own line.

    That was a close shave.

You can see how slow now the French are walking up to the halfway line. They really want to wind the clock down as best they can.
