South Africa are almost being seduced into playing like Japan - throwing loose passes and offloads they don't need to make. They'll get their just desserts in the end!

    Here come Japan again.

South Africa have barely had the ball in hand, but they have the lead.

The sides exchange intercepts on a tightly packed flank, first as Kenki Fukuoka looks for support and then through Siya Kolisi.

Barely a moment to catch your breath.

Jon Malcolm: Whatever happens in this match, I hope coaches take the lessons from Japan that a team superbly drilled in basic skills can challenge anyone. It may not make for exciting training sessions, but it makes for brilliant rugby

    Japan 3-5 South Africa

Japan are working so hard against South Africa's mighty pack.

It's fast and furious and physical.

And winning a penalty at a scrum gets a big old fist-pump.

Almost an interception from Lukhanyo Am but there's a knock-on in there somewhere.

Japan get the put-in 30 metres out.

    Jamie Heaslip
Former Ireland number eight on BBC Radio 5 Live

There's no numbers on the back of these Japan players - all of them have incredible hands and it's catching South Africa out. When you see defenders shooting into the gaps I always think that means they're a little bit afraid and don't want to make the tackle.

It's like a hot potato when Japan are in possession, barely touching the palms as the ball is flicked from player to player.

A swathe of cherry and white shirts sweep right and then left before Springbok scrum-half Faf de Klerk is pulled up.

In their group stage games, Japan would run through those phase plays and they'd bump at least two or three yards forward to get them on the front foot - but most of these collisions once they get into midfield, they're just losing ground and not making those carries.

Nick Hughes: Japan are almost an anomaly, a freak team. Never seen one that plays so fast with such accuracy and is this well-drilled before. Remarkable - they're the most difficult to plan for.

Damian de Allende rides one tackle but lets the egg spill from his grasp at the next.

Huge power throughout this South Africa side, all set up by a powerful, gritty rolling maul.

    Japan 3-5 South Africa

    Paul Grayson
Former England fly-half on BBC Radio 5 Live

South Africa down to 14 men and Japan had loads of possession but it was crucial for them to stay in contact on the scoreboard, because they're likely to get a breakaway try at some point - but they've got to hang on to the coattails.

One thing (and there are many things) I love about Japanese fans is their enthusiasm for a penalty.

As soon as Wayne Barnes' hand went up they exploded with joy.

The biggest roar of the match so far. Deafening.

What a reaction as Japan get the better of the Springbok scrum and earn a penalty.
