The queues to get in were already formed four hours before kick-off.

Once through the gates, there's an outside plaza where fans can soak up the sunshine, watch live music and get food and drinks. It's 20C today with bright blue skies - perfect weather for a World Cup final!

Only seven men have ever experienced what it is to lead their team up to receive the William Webb Ellis trophy.

In three and a half hours or so either Owen Farrell - the son of rugby league royalty transplanted to Hertfordshire- or Siya Kolisi – who has risen to lead his country from a brutally tough upbringing in a Port Elizabeth township – will join them.

Either would be a fitting name to add to that list.

    History beckons, but for whom?
