That meant a lot to the Saracens players.

They were down to 14 men for the whole of the second half, with Billy Vunipola off early with a suspected broken forearm. But somehow they still managed to win. Extraordinary scenes at Allianz Park.

So to clarify: Saracens are in the eighth qualification spot after that win. Gloucester could still replace them if they beat Toulouse with a bonus point or beat them by 12 points or more.

That result also means Northampton Saints' place in the quarter-finals is guaranteed and puts Glasgow out of the competition.

  5. 'We had to do our talking on the pitch'published at 15:04 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2020

    FT: Saracens 27-24 Racing 92

Saracens flanker Ben Earl said on BT Sport:

"That second 40 is everything this club is about. There have been a few obstacles this season but we knew we had to do our talking on the pitch today.

"The experienced heads in the changing room spoke a lot about our plan and it was about the rest of us putting it into practise.

"With what's gone on this week our focus shifts to Europe. We're going after that now and we know we're going to be a tough team to beat."

What Gloucester are now being asked to do in Toulouse is bordering on a miracle. To overtake Saracens they need to win with a bonus point or win by 13.
