    Italy 0-5 Scotland

Sloppy from Italy fly-half Tommaso Allan as he fumbles as his backs outside him geared up for a set move from the line-out. Scotland scrum.

There's an injury and we can watch Stuart Hogg's lovely finish once more. There was a cheeky little step in there which helped him round Jayden Hayward.

He now has 20 tries for Scotland - only Ian Smith, Tony Stanger and Chris Paterson have scored more.

After that end-to-end period that led to Stuart Hogg's try, things have slowed slightly. Scotland fall foul of the rules with hands in the ruck. Italy have a penalty on their own 10m line.

That actually came from a pretty decent Italian attack, they tried to keep the ball alive...

As soon as Hoggy gets the ball he shows real class. Italy full-back Jayden Hayward was completely gassed.

Hogg did the safe thing and kept two hands on the ball to finish.

    Stuart Hogg

    What. A. Finish.

That was a crazy passage of play, and Hogg eventually gets the ball in his hands in his own half, surges past Jake Polledri and completely blitzes full-back Jayden Hayward for pace to finish in the corner.

That's a big moment for the Scotland captain after his previous errors. Adam Hastings can't convert.

The move breaks down but advantage was being played. In at the side of the ruck again. Scotland's discipline has been suspect.

Poor kick from Adam Hastings but it was read well by the Italians. Stuart Hogg slips and that's the problem, that lets Mattia Bellini through. It was good scramble defence in the end.

Fly-half Tommaso Allan kicks right into the corner after Scotland were pinged for offside. Huge chance for the home side .

    What a counter by Italy!

Scotland thrashed away without making much ground and Adam Hastings kicks possession away. Matteo Bellini charges down the pitch, then offloads beautifully to Jayden Hayward. But Scotland manage to recover and dump Braam Steyn into touch on the left-wing.

On a day like this they need to get away from white-line fever. They had eight, nine phases attacking the try line and weren't going anywhere - have the confidence to go through hands and they'll get more out of it.

Oh dear, oh dear. Is that an omen? Adam Hastings sclaffs a relatively simple kick wide. Wasteful.

Scotland get the scrum penalty as Italy are pinged for not binding! Here comes Adam Hastings with a kick in front of the posts....

  15. Wasteful Scotland (again)published at 7 mins

    Italy 0-0 Scotland

Scotland batter away for a few phases as Stuart Hogg and Ali Price go close, but there's a knock-on.

It's been a theme of the tournament that Scotland are wasteful in the opposition 22 and that continues. It was a nice line-out move over the top that brought about the attack, though.

    Italy 0-0 Scotland

Scotland get the penalty at the scrum this time and Stuart Hogg thumps it deep into the Italian 22. A good attacking platform now!

    What a kick.

Scotland give away a free-kick for having too many men at the line-out. Here comes another scrum!

    Scrappy opening...

Both scrums have now collapsed. Referee Ben O'Keefe tries to lay down the law to the front rows. Let's have less of this business please.

Zander Fagerson is penalised when the ball eventually goes in and Italy can clear down the pitch.

    Italy 0-0 Scotland

Early scrum for Scotland on halfway as Italy lose the ball forward. The sun in Rome really is glorious and it could cause a few problems for those in the back three attempting to catch high kicks.

Anyway, Adam Hastings puts in a nice cross-field kick, Sean Maitland challenges in the air but knocks on. Italy scrum.

Italy will come out all guns blazing. Scotland need to be aggressive.
