    Tony McWhirter

"That's maul play from the highest quality from Ulster and that's Rob Herring making up for that awful line-out five minutes ago that led to Edinburgh's score."

    Rob Herring

Ulster will just not go away!

Edinburgh fail to deal with the restart and Ulster are able to force an attacking line-out. From there they get the maul rumbling towards the line and hooker Rob Herring is able to dot down to bring his side back into the match.

It was a great try. That's what Edinburgh can do in attack when they just keep the ball.

    Chris Dean

    What a response from Edinburgh!

Hamish Watson was embarrassed just moments ago by Rob Lyttle, but the Scotland flanker shows another way towards the line by blasting through the initial defensive line, makes roadkill of Michael Lowry and puts Chris Dean over for the score.

Dean has made a couple of errors this evening but fair play to the centre, that was a good support line.

    Edinburgh in control again.

  5. try

Try! Edinburgh 12-5 Ulsterpublished at 54 mins

    Rob Lyttle, con Billy Burns

Brilliant try and it's game on at Murrayfield.

Ulster finally find some composure and execution when Marcell Coetzee offloads to James Hume who finds Rob Lyttle.

The winger has a lot to do but he showed razor-sharp footwork to bamboozle Hamish Watson and race under the sticks.

This is heating up nicely now.

  6. Breathless stuffpublished at 50 mins

    Edinburgh 12-0 Ulster

    What a passage of play!

Ulster are turned over deep in Edinburgh territory and the home side counter-attack.

Jaco van der Walt's looping pass is almost picked off on his own try-line by James Hume, but his failed intercept sets Mark Bennett scampering free.

He has Blair Kinghorn in support but just when he looks for the scoring pass, Billy Burns does superbly to intercept and save his side.

    Breathless stuff!

The Edinburgh pack looks to be just a little more efficient than the Ulster pack. They can keep hold of the ball a little better.

  8. try

Try! Edinburgh 12-0 Ulsterpublished at 46 mins

Dacry Graham, con Van der Walt

Ulster are penalised at the breakdown and Edinburgh kick to the corner.

The line-out is cleanly taken and the home side pick-and-go round the fringes looking for an opening.

The ball eventually comes wide and Chris Dean feeds Jaco van der Walt on the loop around who in turn puts Darcy Graham over in the corner.

    Some daylight for Edinburgh.

The happiest man in the stadium will be Edinburgh defence coach Duncan MacRae. Edinburgh's defence has been phenomenal.

  10. Poor kickpublished at 42 mins

    Edinburgh 5-0 Ulster

Ulster have a glimmer of an opening when Mark Bennett flies out of the Edinburgh defensive line and Billy Burns spots James Hume in space out wide, but the fly-half over cooks the kick and the ball goes out on the full.

  12. Ulster must slow Edinburgh's ballpublished at 20:30 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Edinburgh 5-0 Ulster

    Budge Pountney
Former Scotland flanker on BBC Radio Ulster

"Ulster haven't made Edinburgh work as hard as Edinburgh have made Ulster work.

When you've got someone like van der Merwe you get the ball to him as quick as you can, Ulster have had to build their phases.

What they might talk about in the dressing room is to slow the Edinburgh ball down. It sounds really easy but it's a real mindset thing, technically it's not that difficult to fix."

  13. 'Ulster haven't executed'published at 20:30 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    HT: Edinburgh 5-0 Ulster

Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

    Quote Message

I think Dan McFarland will be disappointed right now. Ulster have had more ball and more territory but just haven't been able to execute.

  14. 'Edinburgh have been sloppy'published at 20:28 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    HT: Edinburgh 5-0 Ulster

    Fraser Brown
Glasgow and Scotland hooker on BBC Radio Scotland

    Quote Message

Edinburgh's shape in the middle of the park isn't great. They are far too reliant on their back three players making metres, and then they've been sloppy in turning the ball over after they do.

  15. 'Edinburgh not home and hosed'published at 20:27 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    HT: Edinburgh 5-0 Ulster

    Tom English
BBC Scotland's chief sports writer at Murrayfield

Ulster had three 5m line-outs which were huge moments. Edinburgh survived on their defence.

It's there for Edinburgh but they are far from home and hosed. If they continue to leave themselves open, you'd think Ulster will take advantage at some stage.

Edinburgh need to get more points on the board.

  16. Half-timepublished at 20:20 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Edinburgh 5-0 Ulster

Oh what a chance for Edinburgh right on half-time!

Jaco van der Walt brilliantly draws two tacklers then offloads for Chris Dean.

All the centre has to do is draw the full-back and put Mark Bennett away for the try but he's tackled from behind and fails to give the pass. Ulster are able to get the ball out of play to signal half-time.

That's a big chance gone and Edinburgh will hope it doesn't come back to haunt them.

Duhan van der Merwe has made 98m in the first half

  17. Express trainpublished at 38 mins

    Edinburgh 5-0 Ulster

The bright spark of this game so far has been Duhan van der Merwe. At last count he was approaching 80m made in less than 40 minutes.

The big man goes off on a gallop again and leaves several defenders in his wake, but it's a familiar scene as a few phases later Edinburgh are pinged by the referee at the breakdown.

Momentum is like a bar of soap for both sides at the moment.

  18. Pinballpublished at 35 mins

    Edinburgh 5-0 Ulster

This is getting very messy now.

A promising position just outside the Ulster 22 is squandered for Edinburgh when centre Chris Dean overruns the ball and the move falters. Ulster snaffle the ball and James Hume is able to kick downfield and into touch.

  19. Destructive Darcypublished at 33 mins

    Edinburgh 5-0 Ulster

Ulster go wide and Jacob Stockdale looks to turn on the burners but Darcy Graham hauls him down and the wee winger is straight back up to compete for the ball and Stockdale is penalised for holding on.

Brilliant defence from the Scotland winger.

  20. Sloppy Ulsterpublished at 30 mins

    Edinburgh 5-0 Ulster

Dan McFarland will be frustrated with some of the sloppiness that is undermining his side's efforts right now.

A great attacking platform from a 22m line-out is butchered when the ball is dropped in midfield and Edinburgh can escape once again.
