"If Stockdale aspires to be an international full-back, that needs to be meat and drink.

At this level of rugby, you have to snaffle those."

    Edinburgh 0-0 Ulster

Duhan van der Merwe makes the initial incision as Edinburgh get on the front foot.

Some mean Ulster defence momentarily stalls the move, but the ball is whipped wide again and Blair Kinghorn breaks through and feeds Van der Merwe again who makes a few more yards.

Ulster concede a penalty so Jaco van der Walt goes to the skies but Darcy Graham sees the cross-field kick sail over his head.

Back for the penalty and Edinburgh kick to touch within 5m of the Ulster line.

  9. Strong defencepublished at 7 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Ulster

Edinburgh are keen to get the ball to Duhan van der Merwe as quickly as possible, but he's chopped in the tackle and some great work at the breakdown from Ulster number eight Marcell Coetzee wins his side the penalty and they can clear downfield.

    Edinburgh 0-0 Ulster

    Quote Message

We've seen more positive rugby in three minutes from Ulster than we've seen in the last 180 over the last two minutes. Good ball carrying, effective cleaning out at the ruck and quick ball for once for John Cooney.

We experienced a semi-final last year and we want to have another go at it. We want to give it a better shot this year than we gave it last year. We’re relishing that opportunity that we’ve manufactured for ourselves.

Leinster lie in wait in the Pro14 final for whoever prevails between Edinburgh and Ulster this evening.

The defending champions gave a typically effective display to overcome rivals Munster to reach a ninth final in 11 seasons.

They are hunting a third straight title and no matter who they face in the final, Leo Cullen's men will be overwhelming favourites to retain their crown.

We’ve never been in this position before, never been this far in the competition. We’ve just got to go out there and deliver. If we can do that under pressure, and it’s about time we did to be fair, then we’re good enough to win.

  19. 'This should be Edinburgh's night'published at 19:21 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Edinburgh v Ulster (KO 1935)

    Tom English
BBC Scotland's chief sports writer at Murrayfield

The last time Ulster fetched up in Scotland for a PRO14 semi-final they got butchered 50-20 by Glasgow at Scotstoun. It was their fourth losing semi-final in five years, so you could say that the visitors are pretty sick of losing on days like this. All four of those semis were away from home and now here is another away trip, this time to Murrayfield.

Ulster are missing four key players in Will Addison, Luke Marshall, Robert Baloucoune and Iain Henderson - a key part of the team has made it into the last eight of the European Cup. That side has been badly compromised by injury and loss of form. You'd have a long search before finding somebody who fancies them tonight. They've lost their last two matches since rugby's return - against Connacht and Leinster.

Edinburgh's record in knockout rugby under Richard Cockerill has seen them lose three out of three, but this should be different. They have a stellar team, few injuries and lots of confidence. This could be a momentous night for them if they deliver what we know they're capable of.

  20. The teamspublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 5 September 2020

    Edinburgh v Ulster (KO 1935)

Scotland lock Grant Gilchrist will make his 150th appearance for Edinburgh as one of eight changes from the side that lost to Glasgow last time out.

Scotland stars Mark Bennett, Rory Sutherland, Stuart McInally, WP Nel and Ben Toolis return to the starting XV along with experienced half-back pairing Jaco van der Walt and Nic Groom.

Fly-half Billy Burns returns to captain Ulster, while Louis Ludik starts on the wing and Alan O'Connor slots into the second row.

Full-back Jacob Stockdale and winger Rob Lyttle complete the Ulster back three along with Ludik - while, for the third game in succession, James Hume and Stuart McCloskey will pair up in midfield.
