Jack Nowell is such a slick operator. He beats the first man so often and on that run he danced past the second and third as well.

    A touch of class.

Small Man Peaky: The ref is killing this game. He's giving Maunder 6+ seconds after telling him to use the ball. Just call "ball out" and 9's will box kick quicker.

  7. Half-time - Exeter 14-10 Northamptonpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 20 September 2020

That concludes an entertaining first half.

All signs were pointing to a comfortable Exeter win before kick-off but Saints are definitely still in the tie.

All to play for after the break then.

That is such a brave play. To bring the full weight of the pack peeling round the front and into five-metre channel is done really rarely because by doing so you are flirting with touch.

    Exeter 14-10 Northampton Saints

Henry Taylor snipes through a gap in the Exeter defence and Saints sense another score late on in the first half.

They're just five metres out again, but Chiefs win the penalty on the ground.

That will probably be that for the opening half.

  10. try

Converted Try - Exeter 14-10 Northamptonpublished at 36 mins

    Teimana Harrison (con Dan Biggar)

    The captain steps up.

Saints claim the ball from the line-out and the driving maul results with Teimana Harrison grounding the ball in the corner.

Credit to Saints, they have stuck at the task and Dan Biggar slots the conversion from close to the touchline.

    Game on.

    Now then.

Saints have the penalty inside the Exeter five metre line, but Dan Biggar decides to pop the ball into touch.

A chance for the visitors to show their intent, perhaps?

Saints are pushed back but they retain possession on the halfway line.

They have seen plenty of the ball in the last few minutes but they are failing to penetrate that Exeter line.

    Exeter 14-3 Northampton

Northampton Saints are showing plenty of resilience this afternoon and they surge deep into the Exeter half once more.

The hosts steal Saints' line-out but the box kick is well collected by Henry Taylor just outside the 22.

Can the visitors build from here?

That pick and go game is so hard to stop from Exeter. They are so patient with it as well. It is a real weapon to their game.

    It was coming.

Exeter have responded well after the early Northampton pressure and the pick and go pays dividends.

    Ominous.

I just love watching Henry Slade with ball in hand, he is such a dangerous runner. And Jack Maunder's support line as a scrum-half was superb. You can never count Exeter out.

    Clinical.

Exeter have been on the back foot for the opening quarter but they win the scrum against the head.

The ball is recycled and Henry Slade glides through the open space before popping off to Jack Maunder.

The scrum-half rolls a couple of tackles and grounds the ball under the posts. Joe Simmonds adds the simple extras off the tee.

Defending deep inside their own half, Saints smother the Exeter rolling maul and win the scrum.

Again, the decision is met by a raw from the men in green and black. They're up for this!
