What a start for Bristol inside just 16 seconds!

Straight from the kick-off, Semi Radradra picks up and then sets Harry Randall free on the inside to outpace the Toulon defence, who are all at sea.

He can't believe his luck as he sprints away and dots down under the posts.

Callum Sheedy notches the routine conversion.

It's such a different Toulon to the team we've seen in recent years with the big names.

But generally, across the back line there's some young French talent there and that's basically what head coach Patrice Collazo is all about in this new era.

We all talk a lot about Semi Radradra as a big prospect in the club and international game, but now people have seen a bit of him in the Premiership, he is for sure an X-Factor player.

Last week in the Premiership semi-final against Wasps, he wasn't allowed too much space and Toulon will be working hard to make sure that's the case again tonight.

  8. Luatua thanks coach Lampublished at 19:53 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

    Bristol v Toulon (20:00 BST)

As already mentioned, Bristol are without captain Steven Luatua who was a late withdrawal as his partner has had a baby girl this evening.

Here was his message of thanks to head coach Pat Lam and the club as a whole for their understanding.

European powerhouses Toulon may have won the Champions Cup three times in a row between 2013 and 2015, but they also could put their name on this trophy for the first time this evening.

There's a name that will be familiar to many in their line-up in Italy legend Sergio Parisse.

The back row has a chance to sign off his glittering club and country career with another trophy.

He won this competition with Stade Francais in 2017, scoring a try in the final against Gloucester.

Hooker Anthony Etrillard skippers the side while Charles Ollivon and Raphael Lakafia join Parisse in the back row.

Baptiste Serin and Louis Carbonel are the half-back partnership.

Toulon: Cordin; Heem, Toeava, Paia'aua, Villiere; Carbonel, Serin; Gros, Etrillard, Gigashvili, Etzebeth, Taofifenua, Ollivon, Lakafia, Parisse.

Replacements: Soury, Fresia, Setiano, Alainu'uese, Rebbadj, Ory, Takulua, Dakuwaqa.

Bristol Bears were forced into a late change to their starting XV earlier today.

Already without injured duo Charles Piutau and Nathan Hughes, captain Steven Luatua will also be absent as his partner has given birth this evening.

Siale Piutau will take over as captain.

But in the Bears' first European final, Pat Lam still has some stellar names in his line-up including Fiji centre Semi Radradra and Saracens loanee Ben Earl in the back row.

Bristol: Malins; Morahan, Radradra, S Piutau (capt), Leiua; Sheedy, Randall; Y Thomas, Thacker, Sinckler, Attwood, Joyce, Vui, D Thomas, Earl.

Replacements: Kloska, Woolmore, Afoa, Holmes, Heenan, Kessell, O'Conor, Adeolokun.

Aix-en-Provence - where this evening's final is taking place - and many other large towns and cities across France are due to start tighter Covid-19 related restrictions from tomorrow morning.

Thankfully though, a crowd of 1,000 spectators are still allowed in to watch the final before those rules change which will hopefully create a good atmosphere.

    Aix-en-ProvenceImage source, Rex Features

European club rugby finally reaches its double header of competition finals, some five months later than they should have been.

We should have been celebrating two big match-ups in Marseille back in May had things gone to their original schedule, but instead we've got two Anglo-French encounters taking place in both France and England appropriately enough.

Tonight, it's the turn of Bristol and Toulon to go head-to-head in the south of France for the prize of the European Challenge Cup before Exeter and Racing 92 face-off to win the European Champions Cup in Bristol of all places tomorrow afternoon.

Kick-off in the Challenge Cup final is just under 15 minutes away so let's get to the build-up.
