  1. O'Mahony 'can't get away with that'published at 15:26 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2021

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

    Ian Gough
Former Wales international on BBC Radio Wales

You just can't get away with things like that.

He [Peter O'Mahony] didn't try to wrap, he led with the elbow and it caught Tomos Francis right in the face.

He looked straight up at the camera as well.

The slo-mo always looks worse, but it doesn't look very nice.

  2. 'It was the correct decision'published at 15:25 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2021

    Wales 3-0 Ireland.

    David Humphreys
Former Ireland fly-half on BBC Radio Ulster

There's not really any defence for it. In the modern game there is a clear code of discipline that is laid out at the start of every season. Every player knows if you go into somebody's head at that height then you will be in trouble.

  3. 'Only one option for the referee'published at 15:24 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2021

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

    Jamie Heaslip
Former Ireland number eight on BBC One

It's a head shot. It's reckless and he is not in control. We are trying to look after players and there is only one option for the referee.

Tomas Francis has lowered a metre but it's not a mitigating factor.

  4. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

This is an enormous challenge for Ireland now, having to play 66 minutes with 14 men.

Wales have the ball and they're creeping into the Irish half.

They're playing with a penalty advantage too after a high tackle from Johnny Sexton on Johnny Williams.

  5. 'Shame'published at 15:22 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2021

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

    Jonathan Davies
Former Wales international on BBC One

    It's such a shame.

Dan Lydiate has been the form player for the Ospreys. He has led from the front and he was picked on form.

  6. Red card - Peter O'Mahonypublished at 14 mins

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

After a spell of Irish possession, there's a break in play as referee Wayne Barnes consults with the television match official about a potential act of foul play from Peter O'Mahony against Tomas Francis.

Did the Ireland flanker lead with his elbow on Francis' head? He did indeed.

Barnes shows O'Mahony the red card and that is a huge moment in this match at this early stage!

  8. Concern over Lydiate injurypublished at 15:18 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2021

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

    Ian Gough
Former Wales international on BBC Radio Wales

He winced as he went down, it didn't seem like there was any contact.

Those innocuous ones don't look bad, but end up a lot worse.

  9. Replacementpublished at 13 mins

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

From that scrum, which seemed solid from both sides, Wales scrum-half Tomos Williams nudges a little kick bouncing out into touch in the Irish 22.

Ireland secure possession from the line-out and clear up to the halfway.

Dan Lydiate can't continue for Wales after all and is replaced by Josh Navidi.

A shame for Lydiate but Navidi's return is a welcome one for Wales.

  10. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

Lydiate is back on his feet, walking very unsteadily and still receiving attention. He'll continue for now.

Josh Navidi - who's also been out of the Wales team for a long time, another who's suffered with a string of injuries - warms up on the touchline.

A scrum for Wales just inside the Irish half.

  11. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

A set of kicking tennis breaks out, with Dan Biggar and Leigh Halfpenny booting the ball into Irish territory, and seeing it return with interest via James Lowe and Johnny Sexton.

It's a game of fine margins so far.

There's a break in play as flanker Dan Lydiate - starting his first game for Wales for more than two years - receives treatment for a leg injury.

  12. 'Good phase of attack from Ireland'published at 15:14 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2021

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

    Richie Rees
Former Wales international on BBC Radio Wales

Ireland are one of those teams, when they get into the opposition's 22 they're very comfortable holding onto the ball and squeezing the ill-discipline from the opposition.

  13. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

We're a fair distance from the pitch up here in the gantry next to the commentators but you can still hear the collisions between the players.

Good spell for Ireland, with full-back Hugo Keenan making half a break and offloading well.

Keenan then tries a grubber-kick which goes out of play for a Welsh line-out five metres from their own try line.

Wales lose that line-out, their first of the match, with James Ryan nipping in - but the hosts will have a scrum.

  14. 'Lines him up'published at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2021

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

    Jamie Heaslip
Former Ireland number eight on BBC One

Look at that hit by Garry Ringrose. Great technique and he lines Alun Wyn Jones up.

Wales are really tightening Ireland up in the middle of the field and they look quite dangerous.

  15. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

No sign of rustiness from Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones on his return from two months out with a knee injury.

He's had a very busy first few minutes.

  16. Postpublished at 15:07 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2021

    Wales 3-0 Ireland

    Jonathan Davies
Former Wales international on BBC One

With no crowd you can hear the contact.

  17. Penalty - Wales 3-0 Irelandpublished at 5 mins

    Leigh Halfpenny

A straightforward kick for the Wales full-back in front of the posts, and it's the home side who lead.

  18. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Wales 0-0 Ireland

So far, so cagey until Wales flanker Justin Tipuric gives a glimpse of his quality with a lovely miss-pass to Louis Rees-Zammit on the right wing.

Wales recycle, Ireland are penalised for a side entry at a ruck, and Leigh Halfpenny will have a shot at goal for the hosts.

  19. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Wales 0-0 Ireland

Wales gather the kick-off safely and Tomos Williams clears with a box-kick, and his Ireland counterpart Conor Murray returns the favour.

Another Williams box-kick, another Murray box-kick and this time Ireland gather through Keith Earls.

Ireland look to get the ball to their backs but then they're penalised for crossing.

Penalty for Wales inside their half and a chance to clear.
