And Elliot Daly is immediately challenged as Damian Penaud kicks on and the England full-back is forced to defend his line under pressure.

He manages it, Brice Dulin goes for an incomprehensible drop-goal from miles away and George Ford eventually tells everyone to cool their jets with a kick to France's 22.

France cannot give away set-piece ball, they need to have possession to put England under pressure.

England win a scrum penalty and it looks like Fabien Galthie is ready to make changes in his front row.

Owen Farrell clears to touch and England have a line-out inside France's half, but immediately concede a penalty of their own.

Owen Farrell feels no pressure. He curls the ball in between the posts and the lead is shortened once more.

Charles Ollivon makes the slightest of contact on England's Charlie Ewels but it is enough for Andrew Brace to award a penalty.

Owen Farrell has a chance at three points to the right of the posts.

Mohamed Haouas pops out of the back of a maul and tries to find Julien Marchand, who was running an excellent line inside.

Marchand can't keep hold of the ball and gives England a chance to clear for a good attacking platform just outside France's 22.

Matthieu Jalibert has kept the returning Romain Ntamack out of the starting XV and he is proving to be very reliable.

The 22-year-old extends France's lead to seven.

Yet another penalty conceded by England and Antoine Dupont taps the ball through playing advantage.

It comes to nothing, so France come back to give Matthieu Jalibert a go at three points.

You can sense that Ben Youngs knows he has to up his game for a game like today against the best scrum-half in the world.

That first half was so good that anything less than end-to-end excitement might feel like a bit of a disappointment now.

England show their intent to keep standards high as they race left off the scrum, then Ben Youngs treats us with a lovely backhand pass. He's not letting Antoine Dupont get all the plaudits.

But the hosts are penalised on the floor again as Owen Farrell is found off his feet. England fans will hope this isn't going to go the same way as their other three games in terms of discipline.
