    Robbie Henshaw (Con Biggar)

    And another one!

More holes than a block of Emmental in this Japanese defence. Robbie Henshaw runs a great line behind a line-out and he's across.

Dan Biggar hasn't missed a kick yet today. He's making the most of this early start.

  2. Replacementpublished at 23 mins

British and Irish Lions 14-0 Japan

The Lions pack is taking some big hits.

Flanker Justin Tipuric is off, apparently after a clear-out by Japan captain Michael Leitch.

Taulupe Faletau takes his place in the back row. Injuries will always blight a Lions tour, but they're not even in South Africa yet...

British and Irish Lions 14-0 Japan

Japan are still threatening in attack. It's a much more even match than the scoreboard suggests.

The problem is the Brave Blossoms' leaky defence...

The Lions have no such issues and secure another turnover on the floor, allowing Dan Biggar to kick towards the corner.

  5. try

Try - British and Irish Lions 14-0 Japanpublished at 18 mins

Duhan van der Merwe (Con Biggar)

    I repeat: try on debut.

Excellent day for the debutants. This is Scotland wing Duhan van der Merwe's first game in front of fans at Murrayfield as well.

The South-Africa born back says he's had some social media trolling this week. What a response.

He picks up the ball from the back of a ruck and sneaks round the corner to go over on the right.

Another two points from Dan Biggar too.

British and Irish Lions 7-0 Japan

Japan are playing fast and loose. A bit too loose. A pass to nowhere ends up in Robbie Henshaw's hands.

The Lions swing it left and Liam Williams is off down the wing. They're almost up to the 22.

British and Irish Lions 7-0 Japan

A try is the perfect antidote to losing your captain early.

But Japan are already testing the Lions again as Dan Biggar is forced to scramble behind his tryline.

The Brave Blossoms immediately attack on the 22 again, but they're penalised on the floor and Biggar will get to clear to touch.

  8. try

Try - British and Irish Lions 7-0 Japanpublished at 13 mins

    Josh Adams (Con Biggar)

    Try on debut!

Bundee Aki picks a great line through the Japanese defence and the Lions build quickly from there.

Josh Adams darts out, in, then under to slide across the tryline. The Lions attack has been fast and furious so far.

Dan Biggar nails a tricky kick from out on the right.

British and Irish Lions 0-0 Japan

Liam Williams and Dan Biggar think they can take a quick-tap penalty. Conor Murray is right there with them and the volume rises as he canters towards the tryline.

Unfortunately, they couldn't take a quick penalty... Biggar kicks to touch instead. Much less exciting.

British and Irish Lions 0-0 Japan

A sturdy touch-finder from Dan Biggar takes the pressure off the Lions. They haven't really had a moment to gather themselves since Alun Wyn Jones has left the field.

British and Irish Lions 0-0 Japan

Not a start to the tour anyone would have wanted. The other senior Lions players will really have to step up now.

Japan are still threatening on the 22 and of course it is Kotaro Matsushima who finds a way through.

Jack Conan has things under control though. The Irish number eight wins a turnover.

  13. Captain Jones leaves the fieldpublished at 8 mins

British and Irish Lions 0-0 Japan

Alun Wyn Jones is on his hands and knees, shaking his head.

He sits up and his left arm looks limp. It happened when he went into a ruck and was cleared out.

Jones leaves the field with a doctor supporting his left wrist. This is not good news for the Lions and will be desperately sad for Jones if it ends up being a lengthy injury.

Courtney Lawes comes into the second row in his place.

British and Irish Lions 0-0 Japan

Japan are doing a good job of keeping hold of the ball as they stride over the halfway line.

A strong maul surges them towards the 22. But wait. Alun Wyn Jones is getting treatment.

British and Irish Lions 0-0 Japan

    Here we go.

The Lions have a bit of a messy line-out but Ken Owens picks up the spill and they quickly work through phases towards the tryline.

Conor Murray finds himself alone though and Japan get the turnover.

  16. Last blastpublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

British and Irish Lions 0-0 Japan

The warm-up match is referee Pascal Gauzere's last and what a historic occasion to go out on.

He is retiring after 11 years in a career that has seen him referee World Cups in 2015 and 2019.

  17. Postpublished at 5 mins

British and Irish Lions 0-0 Japan

This is Japan's first Test match since they bowed out of their home World Cup at the quarter-final stage in 2019.

Captain Michael Leitch spills the ball forward and Dan Biggar kicks to touch.

  18. Postpublished at 3 mins

British and Irish Lions 0-0 Japan

The Lions' defence is going to be tested today by the looks of things.

Japan swing to the left touchline first, then right to Clermont star Kotaro Matsushima. The Brave Blossoms don't find a way through, but they look dangerous all the same.

    The Lions tour is GO.

On to the Japanese anthem. Ah World Cup memories...
