    Ohhhhhh...

Liam Williams almost gives the perfect distraction from his nose plugs.

Dan Biggar chips over the top and Williams chases, but the timing is not there. Number eight Jack Conan instead taps down, but the referee says it is no good.

Another kick to the corner and we'll go again.

Bundee Aki soon wins a turnover. The Ireland centre is having a great day so far.

Dan Biggar kicks to touch and it will be a Lions line-out in the corner.

Thankfully Williams is up, with a couple of plugs up his nose to stem any bleeding. It is not his best look to be honest.

Good news though - the Lions didn't need to lose any more players. There is no punishment for Nakamura and Japan instead get a scrum.

    That was close.

The Lions are juggling the ball round like a hot potato and as it goes loose Kotaro Matsushima grabs onto it and looks to be away.

The Lions were playing advantage, so thankfully the Japan flier is reeled back in.

Japan actually have the better of the Lions in the attacking stats so far. But crucially, they haven't made it over the tryline.

Warren Gatland wanted a strong defence and that's certainly what he got in that first half.

The Lions haven't yet conceded any points despite a strong end to the half by Japan.

Gatland told Channel 4 pre-match: "We have to be strong defensively. We want to see some sharpness in attack. We expect a lot of box kicks from this Japanese team.. defensively we have to be switched on."

If you missed any of that first half, here's what's what.

Captain Alun Wyn Jones left the field in the first 10 minutes. His left arm looked limp and the Lions later tweeted that it was a shoulder injury.

It did not seem to shake the Lions much, with debutants Josh Adams and Duhan van Der Merwe both crossing before Robbie Henshaw crossed.

That Henshaw score came shortly after Justin Tipuric also had to leave the pitch injured.

Dan Biggar is putting on an impressive display at Murrayfield this afternoon with fans and pundits giving the star plaudits.

Fly-halves Owen Farrell and Finn Russell joined the group late because of club commitments and Biggar is making the most of his chance to shine.

England captain Farrell awaits his turn on the bench.

    That's that.

The Lions win the ball back on the floor and put the Japanese attack to rest.

A solid first half somewhat soured by the absence of injured captain Alun Wyn Jones and flanker Justin Tipuric.

Japan fire the ball right to Kotaro Matsushima. It's a pretty good strategy given the wing has scored 11 tries in his last 11 Tests.

Comes to nothing this time, though as the Lions manage to cobble together enough defenders. The Brave Blossoms will get another go though.

Jack Conan is penalised on the floor and Japan are not interested in three points.

Yu Tamura heads for the corner. This could be an exciting end to the first half.

Take that back. Kotaro Matsushima turns up the heat as he finds a micro-gap in the Lions defence, stepping inside Conor Murray.

The move comes to nothing and Pascal Gauzere calls everyone back for a Japan scrum.

Duhan van der Merwe tries to gather Conor Murray's box kick, but the wing has knocked it on.

It was a frantic start from the Lions, but seems to be cooling to a gentle simmer as half-time approaches.

    Duhan van der Merwe again??

The Lions pick up some pace from a line-out and it looks like the Scotland wing has cut through, but he can't quite get an offload to Liam Williams.

We are in for a fun summer from the looks of this attack.

  18. What will these injuries mean?published at 15:39 British Summer Time 26 June 2021

British and Irish Lions 21-0 Japan

Alun Wyn Jones and Justin Tipuric went off injured in the first half against Japan which could cause a headache for head coach Warren Gatland.

Jones is a talisman for the Lions, starting the last nine tests for the team, and with the tour being so short we don't know how many games - if any - he will miss.

Ken Owens took over captaincy duties on the pitch when he went off but England's Owen Farrell or Maro Itoje could take over if Jones is out of action.

Gatland is also growing short of back row players, with Tipuric off and Hamish Watson recovering from a concussion suffered in training.

Taulupe Faletau drops the ball on the floor to give possession back to Japan. If anything, that error just highlights how accurate the Lions have been so far.

They've not had much time together to prepare for this, but it's not really showing so far.

Japan are pushing the Lions defence, though, as they spread the ball wide again and push into the opposition half.

If you're just joining us, the Lions have already lost captain Alun Wyn Jones to a shoulder injury.

Justin Tipuric had to leave the field too, but it doesn't seem to be slowing them down if the three tries are anything to go by.
