A fractured and fractious half ends with the Lions narrowly up.

It's hard to argue Erasmus’ video hasn’t had an impact on the officials, who have been involved in multiple flashpoints and have been put under extreme pressure.

But they’ve handled themselves well in adversity. The game opened up in the second half last week, let’s hope for the same again this time.

  11. Tale of the halfpublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 31 July 2021

HT: South Africa 6-9 British and Irish Lions

    What a half of rugby!

Early tension spilled over as Lions captain Alun Wyn Jones had an intense encounter with Springboks' Eben Etzebeth.

After brutal opening phases the first points went the Boks' way with an early penalty gifting the hosts three points, but Biggar levelled the scores not long after.

A moment of madness came for Duhan van der Merwe as he tripped Cheslin Kolbe to be shown yellow.

And once again pushing and shoving began as Kolbe played Conor Murray in the air, an action which saw the winger sent to the sin-bin.

The feisty half was so juicy that three penalty kicks, one for the Springboks and two for the Lions, didn't even make the cut in the highlights! The first 40 ended with the Lions leading by 9-6.
