Former England scrum-half
Stepping on to the field for the second British and Irish Lions Test against South Africa in 1997 having won the first was the most intense thing I have ever experienced.
A packed-out stadium with a load of Lions fans tucked up in the corner and the sound system on full volume.
Enormous South African players running down the ramp on to the pitch, then the physicality of what they bring, was incredibly intimidating.
It stirs the soul and the pit of your belly. That is why you want to play in those games.

That line from Warren Gatland is an understatement! Interesting indeed!
He continued for Sky: "We were happy with the refereeing last week. We spoke to the refs on Thursday.
"We were happy with the performances. It's been an interesting week in terms of the off-field stuff. Hopefully we can make history tonight."

To say Maro Itoje had a good game last Saturday would be a huge understatement.
His impressive performance earned him the player-of-the-match award, huge compliments from coach Warren Gatland and another starting jersey.
The praise, mainly based on not forcing penalties, will be music to Itoje's ears after having a error-filled Six Nations.
"I thought it was an excellent performance. I made a joke that it was the first time in 360-odd games that Maro Itoje hadn't given away a penalty," the coach said.
"I spoke to him last night as well and said maybe the penny has finally dropped because I thought his decision-making around the game, in terms of when he went for things and when he decided to leave things alone [was excellent].
"I kind of found in the past he has chased lost causes and gone after things that he didn't need to do and probably wasted a lot of energy.
"But I thought on Saturday his decision-making over when to go after something - counter-ruck or a breakdown, line-out stuff - was outstanding.
"So for me that was probably the best I'd seen him play in any kind of jersey. I thought we saw an incredibly mature performance last weekend."

South Africa coach Jacques Nienaber told Sky Sports: "This is a big game for us. It's do or die for both of us [Springboks and Lions]. Since the World Cup final it's the biggest game for us."
On Erasmus's video: "I must say that's Rassie. As director of rugby he felt he had to get a message across. For us it was business as usual which was getting ready for this big occasion
"It had more to do with how we are getting perceived and maybe how we get access. We haven't been involved in rugby for a while so the processes of the communication was like the Six Nations. Now we have clarity, we understand how to do it now."

One of the points Erasmus made in his rather long video was that Lions captain Alun Wyn Jones was shown more respect than Springboks skipper Siya Kolisi.
Kolisi, of course, was asked for his perspective on the situation in his press conference and he did not hold back.
He said: "I didn't feel respected at all.
"I didn't feel I was given a fair opportunity. I'm looking forward to a new game and a new referee.
"I think Ben will give a fair opportunity for both captains and that's all we're asking."

This is a once in a generation opportunity [for Erasmus].
The prospect of them losing the Test series by 7pm on Saturday is unthinkable.
The only thing that matters is winning and you do whatever you can to make sure your team has the best chance of winning.
Every elite coach is an absolute control freak and now he is trying to control something which most people can't control - the performance of the referee.

The focus of this week for the Springboks would have been looking ahead to the second Test - a must win for the hosts.
But the biggest story has been about their director of rugby Rassie Erasmus after he released an hour long video criticising refereeing decisions in the first Test.
You can read more about the story here.

The build-up to this game has been surrounded by some big talking points.

South Africa have also made three changes to their starting XV.
World Cup-winning props Steven Kitshoff and Frans Malherbe both start, with Leicester's Jasper Wiese replacing Kwagga Smith at number eight.
Ox Nche, impressive in the first Test, misses out because of a neck injury.
The Springboks have returned to their 6/2 split on the bench, with Saracens prop Vincent Koch amongst the six forwards in reserve.
South Africa: Le Roux; Kolbe, Am, De Allende, Mapimpi; Pollard, De Klerk; Kitshoff, Mbonambi, Malherbe, Etzebeth, Mostert, Kolisi, Du Toit, Wiese

"We've proved that the Lion has claws and has teeth."
"We've wounded a Springbok.
"When an animal is wounded it returns in frenzy.
"It doesn't think, it fights for its very existence..."
"The Lion waits, and at the right point, it goes for the jugular..."
Ian McGeechan's words from 1997 ring true today.
Can the Lions wrap up the series..?
