    France 7-7 England

Untidy at the back of the French scrum, England's defence sniffs a turnover and rushes up and centre Gabrielle Vernier takes advantage, skipping through a hole and breaking free.

A bit too good for her own good though. She is isolated from her support and England secure a turnover.

Great to see Abby Dow go over. She's had a tough few weeks but look how easy it is when you let the wingers fly! You'd back here any day of the week from that distance - the girl can run!

That was to easy for England. The French team will be kicking themselves because they started the game so well.

    Abby Dow (Con Harrison)

The groundsman is going to have some singed turf to sort out at the break.

England sling a couple of mis-passes: Zoe Harrison to Emily Scarratt to Abby Dow.

And then Dow hits the afterburners, leaving a France tackler looking at her heels.

    Harrison hits the extras.

That was beautiful play. Look at the detail, the hands, the running lines and the angle. That's a lovely score and well deserved. They have been really high tempo and managed the territory so well.

    Maëlle Filopon (con Trémoulière)

"Essaaaiiii!" shouts the PA in Lille.

And well they might. A fully-deserved score for the hosts. Scrum-half Pauline Bourdon pulls the strings, centre Maëlle Filopon hits a lovely outside-to-in line and the two combine to puncture the last line of defence.

Jessy Trémoulière clogs over the conversion.

It is really tough to push Shaunagh Brown backwards! The England scrum has been creaking and there was no hook on the ball. The French all went to work on that scrum - they're a very impressive unit.

Eventually Shaunagh Brown clamps down over the breakdown to steal a turnover.

    France making the running though.

An early warning shot across England's bows as France second row Safi N’Diaye canters through an enormous hole in midfield and slings a pass over her shoulder to scrum-half Pauline Bourdon.

Panic stations for England. But they are off the hook via the ref's whistle. A forward pass somewhere in the build-up.

    Rugby World Cup Pool C

Just a reminder that England and France have been thrown together in the same Rugby World Cup pool, the delayed tournament getting underway in September 2022 now.

South Africa and Fiji are 13th and 21st in the world rankings respectively. With the top two in each pool progressing automatically, both England and France should expect to make the knock-out stages.
