And, replacement hooker Mike Willemse can't find the jumper and another promising position vanishes for Edinburgh.

Only a good tackle from Darcy Graham then prevents Baptiste Chouzenoux from galloping into open prairie after gathering a kick.

That's a second scrum penalty in Edinburgh's favour now, and Jaco van der Walt gets them up into Racing's half.

They just need to score to get a foothold.

You can see Pyrgos has got to his feet but the speed of it, it's probably a fair decision. Poor play from Edinburgh

Errors are killing Edinburgh here. They finally get some field position and territory, but a few handling errors stall their momentum and then Henry Pyrgos is penalised.

It's interesting, the difference in teams. When you watch Racing carry you see them on their feet and when you watch Edinburgh they hit and go to deck.

Big shouts from the Edinburgh ranks as Racing are pinged for obstruction at the lineout. A big let-off, because they were less than 10m from Edinburgh's line.

Can it spark something? No. Dave Cherry throws squint at the lineout.

Not an ideal start for the visitors as Blair Kinghorn is penalised for a a slightly high tackle on Simon Zebo.

Racing almost use their advantage to score a brilliant try, but Edinburgh manage to scramble to prevent it. Back we go for the penalty, and Antoine Gibert misses his attempt at goal.

You can see how well prepared Edinburgh are but they just haven't had possession. They will be absolutely exhausted as there's a fight in every contact and every breakdown.

Edinburgh just need to score first in this second half. Otherwise it could be a long 40 minutes...

Three pretty big errors, although simple ones are costing Edinburgh this game.

Disappointing opening 40 - Edinburgh started so well. They got a good start, physically they are in the game, defending well and in the contest. Two badly taken lineouts resulted in two turnovers and they see themselves two clear scores down.

What a frustrating end to the half for Edinburgh as they went phase after phase on the Racing line.

Hamish Watson barges over, but is held up and the chance is gone. They had backs queueing up out on the left if they'd just looked up...

    Absolutely breathless stuff. End-to-end.

Short and sweet, a brilliant dummy from Damian Hoyland sends him sprinting from deep. He finds Henry Pyrgos, who waits for the supporting Hamish Watson.

He batters away one defender before being brought down. Then Pyrgos' pass from the ruck is blocked by referee Luke Pearce...

Scrum Edinburgh, and breathe. Edinburgh need to find something here.

It's energy-zapping this for Edinburgh, it started so well and so brightly and they are still defending pretty well but every contact is maximal and every breakdown is a fight and it's taking an awful lot out of them.

    Try - Racing 92 20-3 Edinburghpublished at 35 mins

    Maxime Machenaud

    Virimi Vakatawa. That's it.

Incredible play from the centre to fend off George Taylor, and flick the offload to number eight Jordan Joseph.

The big man surges down the wing, bumps off a tackler to offload to Louis Dupichot, who feeds Machenaud to score. Great try.

The scrum-half adds the extras to his own try.

  18. Penalty - Racing 92 13-3 Edinburghpublished at 32 mins

The hosts are turning the screw. Machenaud knocks over a nice kick to extend their lead after Dave Cherry was penalised for not rolling away.

Edinburgh haven't been up the other end in a long, long time.

Duhan [van der Merwe] What a wonderful player he is but he has to be more aware of where he is on the pitch

Racing captain Henry Chavancy has been forced off, so Simon Zebo is on in his place.

Back on the pitch, and Duhan van der Merwe bounces off one tackler before being hauled into touch.
