That's far, far too easy for Fiji. They got their offloading game going from a Welsh mistake and you simply can't afford errors against Fiji because they'll take advantage. This is pretty much perfect rugby from the visitors.

    What a start from Fiji.

Wales are penalised at the breakdown for not rolling away, and from the penalty Edinburgh's Viliame Mata breaks a tackle before offloading to captain Waisea Nayacalevu who opens the scoring.

The conversion is good from Ben Volavola. Wales with early work to do.

Wales have been hampered by late injury issues with Josh Adams - who we've just heard pulled a calf muscle in the warm-up - and Tomas Francis ruled out on the day of the game.

They join a lengthy casualty list that includes Alun Wyn Jones, Ken Owens, George North, Leigh Halfpenny, Taulupe Faletau, Justin Tipuric, Josh Navidi, Ross Moriarty, Dan Lydiate and Aaron Wainwright.

The strength in depth will be sorely tested today.

This will be a difficult game for Wales. Fiji will capitalise on every mistake Wales make because they're full of talented and skilful individuals. Wales might have to slow things down at times and not allow Fiji to play with a high tempo because that is when they're at their most dangerous.

Wales flanker Ellis Jenkins says the captaincy will not affect him as he prepares to lead the side out this afternoon.

Jenkins will skipper his nation from the start for the first time in three years with regular captain Alun Wyn Jones missing through injury.

"It is not something that massively fazes me," said Jenkins.

"A little bit more responsibility, but not something I feel affects my game or changes the way I approach things."

Wales must start positively and not allow Fiji to gain confidence and get going. Dan Biggar will be a key player and use his experience to control the game and keep Wales in the right areas of the field.

One thing Wales will be hoping to avoid today is any more unwanted guests on the field.

There have been two security breaches in Cardiff during the autumn internationals, in Wales' defeats against New Zealand and South Africa.

Wales full-back Liam Williams says it is unacceptable for intruders to go onto the Principality Stadium pitch and warned they could get hurt.

"It's happened a couple of times and we don't want to see it happen again," said Williams.

Wales flanker Thomas Young will try to seize an opportunity that might have passed him by when he plays at the Principality Stadium for the first time today.

The 29-year-old will win just his fourth cap against Fiji, 33 months after his last Test against Italy in February 2019.

Young had previously been ineligible because he played his club rugby in England with Wasps.

"It's up to me now to try and take my opportunity," said Young.

Defence coach Gethin Jenkins hopes Wales will make a point against Fiji this afternoon ahead of the 2023 World Cup.

Gareth Baber's opposite number, Wales head coach Wayne Pivac, will also be facing a familiar opponent this afternoon.

Pivac coached the Fijians between 2004 and 2007 before later settling in Wales and taking over from Warren Gatland in 2019.

"They are a passionate rugby nation," said Pivac.

"It's just a different culture and it was a fantastic experience living in another country."

He is the Welshman in the Fiji camp plotting the downfall of Wayne Pivac's side this weekend.

Gareth Baber will lead the Fijian national team against his fellow Welshmen at the Principality Stadium this afternoon.

It is strange scenario for the former Dragons player and Cardiff coach, who left Wales in 2013 to coach in Hong Kong before ending up in Fiji.

"I am privileged to have the opportunity to take this team into the Test matches over the autumn and it's particularly poignant to me," said Baber.
