That was a Test match of the highest quality.

Some had written the match off as an end-of-year fixture with little to be enthused by.

But the players clearly hadn't read that script.

It was an utterly captivating conclusion to another gripping encounter between these familiar foes.

Australia will be disappointed with a whitewash on their northern hemisphere tour after defeats to Scotland and England.

And while their bodies will be tired, they fought valiantly after losing a player just 15 minutes in.

For Wales, that's a 10th Test win under Wayne Pivac and certainly a welcome one in what's been an injury-hit campaign.

But players like Taine Basham and the return of Ellis Jenkins have been a shining light.

There's still plenty of work on, but they will enjoy that result tonight and rightly so.

Until the Six Nations, go and catch your breath!

Wales head coach Wayne Pivac told Amazon Prime Video: "Mistakes crept in and we let them back into the game.

"We found ourselves then chasing it at the end but we found a way to get it done.

"Unfortunately there are a lot of cards these days, they are turning points.

"Today's result is really important for this group who have worked really really hard.

"They will be satisfied with the result.

"There was a lot of experience unavailable, those young guys will have got a lot out of this series and it's about building depth going into the World Cup in 2023."

  3. 'I couldn't be more proud of the boys' - Slipperpublished at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Wales 29-28 Australia

Australia captain James Slipper told Amazon Prime Video: "We put a lot of pressure on ourselves, a lack of discipline hurt us.

"In Test matches you can't win when you put yourself under that pressure.

"We started well, we were happy with that, we wanted to do that but then we lost our number eight.

"That changes a lot of things.

"We put ourselves in a position to win it at the end, they showed a lot of character to fight tooth and nail.

"I couldn't be more proud of the boys, but Wales were just good enough to get the win."

  4. 'Sometimes you need to win ugly' - Jenkinspublished at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    FT: Wales 29-28 Australia

Wales captain Ellis Jenkins told Amazon Prime Video: "It was a tough one, we made it more difficult for ourselves than we had to.

"They played some lovely stuff, it's lung-busting trying to defend it.

"Sometimes you need to win ugly and we'll take that today.

"The red card is one of those ones, it's clumsy, but these days it is a red card.

"We didn't want to count on that to win us the game, and we probably didn't do that as well as we could at times.

"There are lots of boys to come back, it's been a good opportunity for young guys to come through.

"Hopefully we will challenge for selection going into the Six Nations and beyond."

Wales' Taine Basham told Amazon Prime Video: "I'm proud we dug in until the end.

"Two points down with two minutes to go, we didn't give up.

"We made it hard for ourselves at times, we didn't take our opportunities.

"We'll look back and hopefully improve.

"We have Fiji and Australia in our 2023 Rugby World Cup group, that sets a good marker for us, so a positive autumn."

    The boos ring out again.

But the full-back silences them. He has the length and the accuracy.
