Six Nations highlights: Wales 21-22 Italy

That's it from us on an historic day for Italy in Cardiff. Their first win in Wales and their first Six Nations victory of any sort since 2015.

It was a magnificent performance from them, and they fully deserved their victory.

Wales, by contrast, were dreadful. This was a low, even by head coach Wayne Pivac's standards.

He must now face questions about his future, while Dan Biggar and Alun Wyn Jones will not feel like celebrating their 100th and 150th caps after that performance from their side.

    Let the inquest begin.

In the meantime, head over here for live coverage of the next part of Six Nations Super Saturday as Ireland host Scotland.

From the team at the Principality Stadium, ciao!

Before the game we were talking about Wales winning the game by about 20 or 30 points.

We forgot there was a desperate Italy in front of us, and they came and produced and created everything.

It's difficult to change the head coach now, especially with a World Cup coming up next year.

Who do you go for, for a start?

Italy head coach Kieran Crowley said: "I'm just really proud, there was a bit of adversity and sickness in the camp this week.

"They dug in and kept playing, believing, defence was outstanding and they stuck at it.

    "People can't say we've lost 36 in a row!

"There was a lot of emotion, Marius Goosen our defence coach has been there six years and won his first Six Nations game, you'd think we'd won the World Cup!

"We had some measures to measure ourselves by, not the results and this gives us a base going forward now."

You've got to give credit to Italy, they played a fantastic game and stayed in it for 80 minutes and snatched it at the end.

We shouldn't go overboard yet, I can imagine what the fallout will be from this and rightly so, in certain areas Wales didn't play well.

I don't think the defeat was down to a lack of effort, but sometimes with a little bit of disruption the littlest of things can upset the balance.

Italy have been written off for so many years in the Six Nations.

They've had to go through so much.

They didn't just scrape a win today, they were better team right throughout the game, and they completely deserved the win.

Wales head coach Wayne Pivac said: "Dan Biggar is 100% on the money, we didn't start the way we wanted to.

"We conceded 12 points in the first half through ill-discipline in the first half and left a couple of tries out there, we weren't accurate enough.

"To get back in the lead and throw it away is very disappointing.

"The Italians here came with more enthusiasm than we did but we still should have won that game of rugby.

"We'll review that and make sure we learn from that.

"It's frustrating, we knew it would be tough this year and that's how it's been, we improved throughout the competition and today we let ourselves down."

Wales captain Dan Biggar said: "It' probably the toughest interview I've had to do, simply not good enough.

"It's so poor to lose it from where we were, we've played poorly all day but to not finish it off from 70 metres from our line.

"We've said in the huddle now that's probably last chance for a lot of players.

"I think we're a bit unlucky on the try, Wyn [Jones] thinks he's scored the try when it goes to TMO, if that's given the game is different but it wasn't.

"We were chasing as high as we could get and from the get go we weren't quite at it and you get punished.

"Too many boys not quite up to speed, we were second to loose balls and balls in the air.

"It's really disappointing that something that we pride ourselves on that requires no talent is work ethic."

    Italy have played very cleverly.

Wales scored three tries and Italy scored one, but the difference was Italy controlled the game.

Wales had the wrong game plan to face a team like Italy.

Too much kicking that put the ball in the hands of Italy's most dangerous players.

Italy captain Michele Lamaro said: "It's just unreal.

"I couldn't believe it, I want to stay with my family and teammates and celebrate with them because we deserve it and we worked so hard to get here.

"It's the first step of our long process that we just started.

"Capuozzo is the superstar of our squad right now and that last try was amazing.

"I think just being in the moment until the end took us to the win."

Wales wing Josh Adams told S4C's Clwb Rygbi: "I'm gutted.

"I don't know what to say, we weren't good enough.

"I'm just really disappointed we couldn't get the win for Alun Wyn Jones and Dan Biggar.

"Discipline was one of our big problems, we gave away a lot of penalties in the first and second half.

"We talked a lot before the game about starting quickly, and we didn't start quickly.

"We have to respect Italy, they're a really good team and they deserved to win today.

Italy have improved through this campaign, but nobody thought they could be strong enough to beat Wales away.

When Wales try and play rugby and create chances they can't do it.

The attacking structure isn't there for Wales to score enough points.

Every Welshman and lady will be gutted but it's massive for Italy.

It's amazing for the Six Nations. Nobody wants to be the team that ends that 36 defeats in a row for Italy but you have to admire the Italian passion.

Italy deserved the win, they kicked smartly and well for territory.
