What a try that was! It started deep in Fiji's half from a poor kick and chase by England and Nakoci has taken the space, picked a gap and accelerated clear of the defenders.

So what can England do with a player advantage? Well the start of the sin-bin sees another fizzle of Fiji attack but Sesenieli Donu is shoved into touch.

But Fiji get it once more and Alowesi Nakoci is over! Wow, what a bit of skill.

    Fiji 0-17 England

    Katy Daley-Mclean
England's 2014 World Cup-winning captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

Fiji are playing the more attractive rugby and have started well but England are more clinical. Yes, we want to see a beautiful game but England are taking the points.

England will start to build from here and we should see the England team we've seen previously.

Fiji are a big team and will start to tire.

  6. try

    Abbie Ward (con, Emily Scarratt)

Fiji have hands on the floor in the ruck and the referee Aurélie Groizeleau has a word with Sereima Leweniqila to stop the penalty count.

Zoe Harrison kicks to the corner, will the driving maul have more success? Not this time as England are forced to go through the phases and Abbie Ward is over! Leweniqila is yellow carded for another penalty.

England are running through the phases after winning their scrum ball. And just as we headed to double figures in the phases England are pinged for holding on and Fiji are away!

They run England back to their own 22 but Emily Scarratt regathers the ball Fiji are challenging England more than anyone else in recent history from my perspective!

    Fiji 0-10 England

Abbie Ward almost steals the line-out but she is pinged for leaping across the line and Fiji clear their lines.

The latest Fiji line-out goes too long and Leanne Infante is so close to pouncing on the bouncing ball. Penalties exchange hands and we have an England scrum.

    Fiji 0-10 England

    Katy Daley-Mclean

That's a very standard England try that we've come to know them for. They were in control of that move all the time.

  10. try

Try - Fiji 0-10 Englandpublished at 05:03 British Summer Time 8 October 2022

    Amy Cokayne

England strike trough the driving maul with Amy Cokayne reaping the rewards!

And again Emily Scarratt can't convert, it is a bit windy at Eden Park but the vice-captain will be slightly disappointed with that.

The handling hasn't been slick from either side but you could imagine Simon Middleton is becoming a bit frustrated as Lydia Thompson spills in a good position.

They quickly recover possession and are targeting try number two. Zoe Aldcroft was almost over but this time it is Fiji who put in a great defensive spell. We come back for an earlier advantage, England kick to corner! Anyone else breathless from this start?

    All action so far!

    Claudia MacDonald

England get the advantage in build-up attack and they continue to hammer the line, a crossfield kick is popped in but Lydia Thompson can't collect and so we are back for the advantage.

Zoe Harrison kicks to the corner and the the line-out is successful. The driving maul is in action, the ball is popped out the back at the winger pounces! A poor kick from Emily Scarratt sees her fail to add the extras.

    Fiji 0-0 England

Karalaini Naisewa makes an incredible early break but sadly her hard work isn't rewarded as there's a knock on. Harrison clears the Red Roses lines and the kicking game then comes into play.

It ends with Fiji camped in their own 22, they attempt to kick away but England charge it down. The Red Roses can't capitalise this time but it feels England are just going through the gears.

The build-up to this tournament, I had worries about the time zone and ticket sales.

I was worried about the level of competition and the standards within it.

Now, a lot of that has been ironed out. I do genuinely believe now this could be the best World Cup ever.
