There's no doubt Wales need stability when it comes to team selection.

In this year's Six Nations players didn't know if they were going to be picked from one week to the next, and that isn't good for their confidence.

Bloemfontein really knows how to put on a spectacle.

There are fireworks going off all around the ground and the crowd is going wild.

The roar when the Springboks came out was something to behold, especially compared to when Wales arrived on the field.

If you look at the quality of that South African back row, there is Evan Roos who's the URC's Player of the Championship this year, you've got Pieter-Steph du Toit who's the former World Player of the Year, and Marcell Coetzee.

Everyone knows what those three can do.

I really think this is a dangerous South African team this afternoon.

  11. Francis ruled out of Springboks series with concussionpublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 9 July 2022

South Africa v Wales (16:05 BST)

As well as the defeat, there was more disappointment for Wales in Pretoria as prop Tomas Francis was carried off after sustaining a head blow.

The 30-year-old has since been ruled out of the tour after suffering concussion.

Wales had hoped Ospreys' Francis would be able to feature in the third Test in Cape Town on Saturday, 16 July, after completing at least a 12-day compulsory stand-down period.

Instead Sam Wainwright and Harri O'Connor have chances to make Wayne Pivac's matchday squads - the Saracens man is among the replacements today.

I think Alex Cuthbert has been selected as he's very powerful, and he won't hold back today.

He carries the ball well for a wing, he's playing with confidence and he's enjoying his rugby.

  14. Springboks aim to bury hopes in Bloemfontein 'graveyard'published at 15:56 British Summer Time 9 July 2022

South Africa v Wales (16:05 BST)

South Africa will be hoping Bloemfontein, which has been nicknamed "the graveyard" by the players, will be where Welsh hopes end.

After losing the first Test in Pretoria, Wales need to get back to winning ways in Bloemfontein this afternoon or else the Springboks will win the series with a game to spare.

"Bloemfontein is a special place, we want to keep it that way and make it a tough place for others to come here," said stand-in captain Handre Pollard.

"It's an unbelievably special atmosphere, we are going to tap into that and try and channel that emotion in the right direction."

The (Wales) management have had a big job this week to try to freshen the boys up and light a fire under their confidence.

We don't want to give the Springboks a lead, we want to be right up there from minute one, and punching our weight as such.

South Africa v Wales (16:05 BST)

Wales' Dan Biggar says his captaincy style will not change ahead of this afternoon's match in Bloemfontein.

The Northampton fly-half captained Wales for the first time outside of the Six Nations in last week's defeat.

It was a game with real "edge, niggle and needle", as Biggar put it, with Wales receiving four yellow cards during the match.

"What you see is what you get with me," said Biggar.

"It was a great Test match to be part of and my approach won't change.

"I felt there was a real edge to my game and that's when I feel like I'm where I need to be."

  20. Biggar denies Springboks' selection disrespects touristspublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 9 July 2022

South Africa v Wales (16:05 BST)

Wales captain Dan Biggar has disagreed with Sir Gareth Edwards' comments about the Springboks' team selection.

Biggar says he does not believe South Africa have devalued the series by making 14 starting changes for the second Test match.

"I know the side we played last weekend are renowned experienced World Cup winners," said Biggar.

"But this team have Handre Pollard at 10, who is going to glue that together a little bit better, you would have thought.

"South Africa can pick who they want and they are going to be strong whoever they put out."
