    FT: South Africa 30-14 Wales

A series defeat then for Wales, who are left to rue what might have been, especially in the first Test.

Even today, there were some really key moments. Wales absorbed lots of pressure and got back within three points.

However, as a whole, this was a tour with more positives than negatives for Wales, who have another nine Test matches to play before the World Cup.

Thank you for following along with us and enjoy the rest of your weekend, Argentina v Scotland is around the corner for you to enjoy.

  2. 'I can't fault the effort' - Pivacpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 16 July 2022

Wales head coach Wayne Pivac told Sky Sports:

"It was a bridge too far in the end but there were some big moments. We had opportunities and probably let them off the hook a couple of times with a not straight in their 22.

"I can't fault the effort. There were some banged-up bodies throughout the week and it took its toll in the end.

"There seemed to be a lot of calls from the sideline - red, red, red. We got picked up for offside, I thought they were a couple of times, but at the end of the day that wasn't the difference between the two sides.

"Under pressure we gave a few [penalties] away and that's probably similar to the first Test.

"We came here to win the series. The first Test could have gone either way. We have put a lot of effort into this series and I think we have set a standard for ourselves.

"We have got to make sure we take a lot of the effort that went into this series, tidy up some of the discipline, look after the ball a little bit better when we have it so we can build more pressure and make sure we build on that for the autumn series coming up.

"The majority of players did very well on this tour. It's now about making sure we build on this tour."

  3. 'Today we created more' - captain Kolisipublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 16 July 2022

    FT: South Africa 30-14 Wales

South African captain Siya Kolisi told Sky Sports:

"I think we got our scrum and maul working and worked hard at the break-down, we stuck to our game-plan.

"Today we created a little bit more than we did in the last two games.

"We had criticism because the fans want to see us win all the time.

"We feel we have a squad that can go onto the World Cup. Everyone is getting an opportunity.

"We have people waiting to play who we can trust."

  4. 'Wales are tough to put away' - Nienaberpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 16 July 2022

    FT: South Africa 30-14 Wales

South Africa head coach Jacques Neinaber told Sky Sports:

"I wouldn't say it was comfortable. It was typical playing Wales.

"The first two Tests, it took 78 minutes and 80 minutes [to settle the games] - that's how tight it was. Wales are a tough team to put away.

"I thought the guys that came off the bench were really good. I am really pleased with the result.

"We had a plan from the start. We are just lucky to get the series win. We are pleased. From tonight there is lots of stuff to work on."

    FT: South Africa 30-14 Wales

South Africa lock Eben Etzebeth told Sky Sports:

“What a day! Getting the series win is special for us and I think every guy put up their hand, it was a special performance.

“It is special (to reach 100 caps) the guys before me are a group of legends, so to join that list, it’s awesome to be a part of it.

“We approached the game like a final and prepared like that and luckily we got the result today.”

  6. 'Retention the next level for us' - Northpublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 16 July 2022

Wales centre George North told Sky Sports:

“It’s a tough old shift out there. To come to Cape Town with the series at 1-1 is exciting. I guess for us it’s retention. For massive parts of the game we didn’t have enough ball.

“When we had opportunities we either knocked it on or had a turnover. That’s the next level we need to get to – that retention in the right areas.

“You know when you play South Africa it’s going to be a battle. The injuries were sore and we emptied the bench early. But it’s a great shift from the lads.

“It’s a bit of a dream [to reach 105 caps]. A year ago with my knee, I didn’t think I would be in a Welsh shirt again. I didn’t think I would get on the field again at one point.

“To fight back and get back in the Welsh jersey is a huge thing for me.”

We saw solid performances from Wales in all three Tests.

It's good to see consistency in team selection in this series as we have have to remember there are nine competitive matches until the World Cup.

There's plenty to build on from this series, and it's good to see new faces like Tommy Reffell come in during this series.

I think there's lots for Wales to be positive about after this series.

The big positive for me is how much Wales stepped up to that challenge at the gain line physically a lot of the time in defence, although the Springboks did manage to get a couple of close quarter tries.

Certainly Wales will come away from this series and think there is nothing to fear from the Springboks.

South Africa have come back time after time in this series.

Fair play to Wales there have been no gaps in their defence, and they've been uncompromising when tackling and have played with pride.
