It's been a tough old week for Wales captain Ken Owens - seemingly stuck in the middle of rugby bosses and the players.

Warren Gatland said to him on Thursday that he looked 10 years younger after an agreement was finally reached over the contracts.

Owens spoke to the press with Nigel Walker and praised his player's professionalism during a chaotic week.

This is a pivotal game for both teams.

Heavy defeats by Ireland and Scotland showed not even Warren Gatland could singlehandedly pull Wales out of the mire.

They find themselves bottom of table and staring down the barrel of another wooden spoon.

Steve Borthwick's England are in slightly better shape in third.

They stuttered against Scotland before victory over Italy.

Anthony Watson gets his first England start in almost two years.

He comes in on the wing for the injured Ollie Hassell-Collins in the only change to the starting XV that beat Italy in round two.

Vice-captain Courtney Lawes is set for his first England appearance since July having been named on the bench.

He's back after a string of injuries, including concussion.

Ben Curry is also a replacement after being called into the squad when brother Tom was injured.

The captain Owen Farrell once again starts at fly-half, with Marcus Smith poised to make an impact from the bench.

England: Steward; Malins, Slade, Lawrence, Watson; Farrell (capt), Van Poortvliet; Genge, George, Sinckler; Itoje, Chessum; Ludlam, Willis, Dombrandt.

Replacements:Walker, M Vunipola, Cole, Lawes, B Curry, Mitchell, M Smith, Arundell.

What a stage for Mason Grady to make his international debut for Wales.

The young Cardiff centre has only made 20 regional appearances, but at 6ft 5ins and more than 17st, he certainly fits the bill for Test rugby.

He's one of nine changes made by Warren Gatland from the defeat to Scotland.

Owen Williams make his first Test start at number 10, with Dan Biggar dropping to the bench.

Joe Hawkins joins Grady in a new-look midfield, while there's an old head returning in Leigh Halfpenny, with Louis Rees-Zammit also back from injury.

The old guard of Taulupe Faletau, Justin Tipuric and Alun Wyn Jones are back in the pack.

Liam Williams and George North will be watching from home after being left out altogether.

Wales: Halfpenny; Adams, Grady, Hawkins, Rees-Zammit; O Williams, T Williams; G Thomas, Owens (capt), Francis, Beard, AW Jones, Tshiunza, Tipuric, Faletau.

Replacements:Roberts, Carre, Lewis, Jenkins, Reffell, Hardy, Biggar, Tompkins

  13. Strike off, game on!published at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2023

    Wales v England (16:45 GMT)

We weren't sure if we'd get here, but one of the biggest games on the international rugby calendar is just an hour away.

Wales take on England in the week they threatened strike action amid a long-running dispute over contracts.

Preparations have been less than ideal for the hosts, with training disrupted and players spending their down time locked in talks with Welsh rugby bosses.

But an agreement was reached at the eleventh hour, so we have a game on our hands.

Whether the chaotic build-up affects Wales remains to be seen, but with the old enemy in town, motivation is never in short supply.

Let's start by taking a look at the teams.
