I said throughout that when you're against really top sides, when you get opportunities you have to execute them.

I had a feeling when I saw two opportunities go in the first half and another in the second half, that's 15 points in my book.

You cannot afford to do that against Leicester Tigers, and, reversely, as soon as Leicester had those opportunties, they took them.

There was no spilt pass or knock-on, they ran them in. Chris Boyd will come up here and say that game was there to win, because they could have done it.

  5. 'Tough pill to swallow' for Saintspublished at 18:50 British Summer Time 11 June 2022

FT: Leicester Tigers 27-14 Northampton Saints

Losing captain Lewis Ludlam tells BT Sport he is proud of his team but knows they missed big chances to win the game.

"It's a tough pill to swallow. There's not much I can say. They were the better team today.

"I couldn't be prouder of the group, the way we have behaved and played to get into this position. I'm lost for words now I suppose.

"The thing is we had the chances but we didn’t finish them and they did. At the top end you have to take them.

"It's back to the drawing board but we'll use it as fire for next year. This group ain't done, we’ll use it for fuel and get better."

You have to give credit to Leicester because once they smelt blood they really upped the ante.

They deserved it in the end but for 60 minutes Saints were the better side.

As much as you dress over it, Saints are not going to Twickenham because of missed opportunites.

Leicester did not have many but they turned them into points.

George Ford, who leaves Tigers to join Sale at the end of the season, pays tribute to the Youngs family as he speaks to BT Sport, adding:

"What a place, what a club, what a set of people. I've been here eight years in two stints and I've loved every second if it, the highs and lows.

"I don't think you'll come across a more traditional rugby club. I'm going to miss it.

"We've got a job to do next week. We're going to have to be at our very best. We can't wait for it."

Tigers found a way to win because they were relentless in their pursuit to win the game.

Northampton played really well but Leicester had an edge to say 'we are not losing this game'.

Everyone has emptied the tank, they've worked really hard and they've done it for the Youngs family as well today.

Wow, 100% total satisfaction in that performance from Tigers.

The players from both sides are dead on their feet, no player from either side could have given any more.

It was a cracking semi-final for the neutral, both sets of fans will be proud of their players but Tigers deserved that victory.

George Ford controlled the game, controlled the tempo and I don't think you could have asked any more of that man today.

They have found a way to win and you can't take that away from Leicester Tigers.

It's not been pretty, it's been a bit ugly at times, but they've made sure they've won another home game.

Now can they do it at Twickenham?

Tigers powered their way to victory in the second half to defeat their East Midlands rivals who will be left ruing several golden opportunities missed in the first half.

It was a great contest and the Tigers only really pulled away in the final stages.

George Ford scored 22 points in a wonderful individual performance but his team as a whole were excellent as they have been all season.

They will face Saracens in the Premiership final next Saturday.

You can't underestimate that decision to go for that drop-goal from George Ford. He knew that would send them to Twickenham.

    That's great on-field leadership.

It's incredibly scruffy but George Ford won't care!

Not a pretty drop-goal at all but it creeps over the crossbar - the referee asked to check it it was that close!

That might well be that barring some late Saints magic.

A big moment in the game maybe.

Tommy Freeman misjudges the kick and is adjudged to have knocked-on, gifting Tigers a scrum in the Saints half.

Tigers also send on the Fijian man mountain winger Nemani Nadolo for the final five minutes.

Leicester have the bit between their teeth now and are well on top.

Tommy Freeman has been excellent at full-back for Saints but loses possession in the contact and the Tigers juggernaut swings back into action.

Saints will be back up to 15 men soon and it can't really come soon enough for them.

Have they got enough to get back into this?
