The very last game of an epic season finishes with an edgy, nervy, nailbiting final - which ends with a thrilling climax that hands Leicester the title over Saracens.

Freddie Burns' game-winning moment was the decider after Saracens hunted Tigers' lead down and cancelled it out.

Both sides had come here following adversity, skipping relegation in the case of the Tigers and coming back from the drop at Sarries.

However, it was Steve Borthwick's side that got to grips with the game best and dominated with their gameplan.

A final-minute drop-goal winner from Freddie Burns against Saracens earns Leicester their 11th Premiership title.

It's tough. Horrible really. But we were beaten by a better team on the day. We didn't show up and that's the most disappointing thing, so all credit to Leicester.

They've been through a lot and I'm very happy for the Youngs family to be lifting a trophy after a horrible last month.

We've got to regather ourselves somehow. We've got some legends leaving the club so we need to regroup and go again.

They play a traditional style of rugby and when they get ahead they're hard to beat as they keep pinning you back; a bit like the Saracens of old.

We didn’t have an answer to it today and that is disappointing. We’ve got so much quality and experience but probably some of our big players didn’t show up which is tough.

Mako (Vunipola) just said to us to have been through everything that we've been through over the past couple of years to be here is good but it's not what we wanted.

There had only been six drop goals in Premiership finals before today.

I think this one was arguably one of the ultimate three-pointers from Freddie Burns.

Slightly out of position, right at the end, pressure on. Nailed it.

Freddie Burns, who kicked the winning points with a late drop-goal, speaking to Radio 5Live:

I can't tell you much, I'm in disbelief right now.

The fight this team has showed all year. That's my job to kick it but we were up against it and we pulled ourselves up from the depths again.

I'm in shock. I'm over the moon. It's everything. I said when I was five years old that I had two ambitions and that was to play for my country and to win the Premiership and with a year in Japan I thought it has gone.

It just means the world. It chokes me up just thinking about it. Not many people know but your family ride the ups and downs with you. It means as much to them as it does to me.

Saracens captain Owen Farrell speaking to BT Sport:

It was a game of not making too many mistakes. They were not playing anything in their half and I think it frustrated us.

They’ve played well all season and carried that into today. They stuck to the gameplan and when we made mistakes they punished us.

There weren't too many cracks in that game, when mistakes were made they punished us.

What an achievement for Richard Wigglesworth who replaces Andy Deacon as oldest finalist and Mike Catt as oldest starter too at the age of 39.

Leicester ticking off all the records as they make it 11 titles and nine since the professional era in 1996.

"I am knackered. I honestly never thought I’d see this day again.

"About four months ago I was sat in the garage at home and now I’m winning a Premiership.

"No one one gave us a chance, we had a free shot here today.

"It’s amazing, this group has worked so hard. Saracens are an amazing team but oh man, I can’t believe it."

Tom Youngs is on the field, and shares a wonderful embrace with the players, including hero Freddie Burns.

Meanwhile, Saracens players receive their runners-up medals. They are as stony faced and rueful as you might imagine...

Leicester Tigers player of the match Jasper Wiese told BT Sport:

"It's amazing, it shows how far the blokes have come. I want to say thank you to the fans, the players who didn't play today. It's not just the squad today it's everybody's work.

"It's special, with some of the boys leaving we said it was the last one together."

As Tom Wood points out, the emotion following the death of Tiffany Youngs, the wife of ex-Tigers player Tom and the sister-in-law of half-back Ben, will have been a poignant backdrop here today.

Steve Borthwick named Ben Youngs among his replacements and gave Richard Wigglesworth the chance to direct the team which he did with aplomb.

Youngs came on late and it will have been a special moment for the squad, who knew Tiffany so well, to secure this win.

There was a lovely sight of Steve Borthwick and defence coach Kevin Sinfield sharing a hug at full-time.

It will have meant so much to him as a coach, having experienced this glory as a player with Saracens. to do it now with Leicester.

Sinfield's got form for ultra-running these days having conquered rugby league. His heart will have been pounding though. And he'll have appreciated Freddie Burns' drop given his own proficiency.

Tigers have been the benchmark all season.

The emotion for them in the last few weeks with the Youngs brothers in the camp and that would have spurred them on no end.

They deserve it. Credit to them.

What a game plan from Steve Borthwick, he has got Leicester so well drilled to take the sting out of a dangerous Saracens side.

They kicked them to death. They pounded them at the set-piece. They scored two fantastic tries. They won.

Top all season, just four defeats. Now champions again.

Freddie Burns kicked the drop-goal with seconds remaining, having come off the bench to replace the injured George Ford.

In his first final, he has sunk a crucial three-pointer.

Saracens, back in the Premiership this season after their enforced relegation, have been outgunned.
