You have to feel for the Irish backline here as they try to build phases of play.

It is incredibly hard to try and set a platform for your attacking play when your scrum is being wheeled backwards consistently.

Wales' set piece has been very impressive today even after an early rejig losing lock Gwen Crabb to injury.

Dominant tackles and an attacking platform built upon dominant scrums and line-out work is the difference.

  3. try

Converted try - Wales 26-0 Irelandpublished at 33 mins

    Hannah Jones, con Keira Bevan

Bonus point sealed in 33 minutes!

For the first time it is the Irish scrum that forces Wales backwards but Sioned Harries does well to gather the ball and maintain possession.

The ball is moved quickly to the centres and Kerin Lake brushes off two tackles before passing to captain Hannah Jones who had the simple task of running between the sticks to score.

Keira Bevan is now three from four with the boot, as she adds the conversion again.

Sam Monaghan has passed her head injury assessment and is ready to come back on for Ireland.

The lock was one of Ireland's standout players during the 2022 campaign so the Irish coaching staff will be delighted to get her back out on the field.

Ireland look like they've just ran out of ideas to create something. They need their key players to step up.

    Wales 19-0 Ireland

The game has been played in great spirits up to now, but Keira Bevan and Kerin Lake have got into a scuffle with four or five Irish players off the ball.

They all eventually break things up as the game continues on the far side of the pitch.

  9. 'Forwards dominant'published at 28 mins

    Wales 19-0 Ireland

    Alecs Donovan
Former Wales centre on BBC Radio Wales

Wales will be happy with this start.

As we were saying we would love to see more balls going out wide but the forwards are just so dominant against the Irish forwards at the moment and they're just sticking to that process which is working well.

    Wales 19-0 Ireland

Ireland have a short spell of possession on halfway but are still struggling to get over the gain line, something Wales are doing with ease.

Wales do win back possession before knocking the ball forward on the Irish 10 metre line.

    Scrum to Ireland.

Wales head coach Ioan Cunningham said in the build up to today's game that he wanted to see more tries from his team during this Six Nations.

Three in the first half an hour will surely put a smile on his face.

    Sioned Harries, con Keira Bevan

And the driving maul works again!

Wales once again win the line-out and look to use their power advantage.

A whole pile of red jerseys collapse over the try-line, but the score has been awarded to replacement Sioned Harries.

Keira Bevans is on target again with the conversion.

  16. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Wales 12-0 Ireland

Ireland do maintain possession of the ball at the scrum and clear up to outside their 22.

But here comes the Welsh power again, particularly through prop Sisilia Tuipulotu who looks impossible to stop at times.

    Wales 12-0 Ireland

    Alecs Donovan
Former Wales centre on BBC Radio Wales

Wales are not forcing anything, they are just following the ball and they know when Ireland are going to push up in defence. They're doing that really well and giving Ireland no room to play.

  18. Replacementpublished at 21 mins

    Wales 12-0 Ireland

Ireland second row Sam Monaghan is off for a head injury assessment. Hannah O'Connor is on in her place.

  19. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Wales 12-0 Ireland

Ireland will have the put in at this scrum a few metres from their own try line but having seen how the last couple set pieces have gone they will not be feeling too confident.

  20. Wales winning power gamepublished at 21 mins

    Wales 12-0 Ireland

    Andy Gray

There's no doubt the wind is making things difficult for Ireland but you can tell this is a back line who are in the early phases of their development together.

Wales are winning the power game but the unforced errors aren't helping the Irish cause.
