    Progress.

That was the aim for Wales ahead of this tournament and this result - a record Six nations win over Italy - confirms mission completed.

Wales finished third last season but with only two wins.

This season they have claimed three successes - the opener against Ireland and two away wins in Scotland and Italy.

There is no shame at all finishing behind England and France in the table and there is still work to do to make the Six Nations universally competitive.

But Wales can certainly claim to be the best of the rest.

They are also now up to sixth in the world - their highest ever ranking - and have qualified for the top tier of the new global WXV tournament.

So after a pretty dismal year in general for Welsh rugby, let's at least celebrate that success!

    Until next time, hwyl fawr!

Wales' player of the match Alex Callender said: "We made it hard work but we stuck to our process throughout the whole 80 minutes.

"I couldn't be proud of the girls, we wanted to take their legs away as soon as we came out, that is exactly what we did.

"The World XV is a testament and will test us as a team, we want to be playing against the best teams in the world that is how we are going to get better if we challenge ourselves against the top teams like England France and New Zealand.

"I'm so excited for that challenge."

On scoring the try: "I was just thinking run, I'm glad Carys Williams-Morris was there on my shoulder!"

We are seeing glimpses of how we compete with the best in the world, what we need to see is how we compete for 80 minutes and the more times we can play them the better we will be at that.

Going into tier one of World XV with 15 points in the Six Nations - which is outstanding - will give us that opportunity to compete more often and close that gap.

Ffion Lewis is off. She clearly badly twisted her knee when she tried to charge direction. Sad way to end the campaign.

    Well deserved for the flanker.

As I said earlier, she has been immense in defence this tournament with another 11 tackles today but also a threat in attack.

Great to see her get her try after 19 carries.
