Gareth Anscombe speaking on BBC Radio Wales: "I'm absolutely delighted, so relieved.

"We knew Australia were going to be desperate and we knew it was going to take our best performance.

"We wanted to put on a performance that was about the people who have put a lot of work behind us.

"To concede only six points against a strong Wallabies team is just remarkable.

"Dan Biggar means so much to this team he is a real spiritual leader, I knew I had to come on and do my role and that's all I was focused on.

"I've got to give a lot of credit to our boys they were outstanding and I'm just absolutely chuffed for the group."

Wales captain Jac Morgan on S4C: "It was brilliant to get the win but it's full credit to all the work we've done over the past few months.

"We've played well in the last two games but there were a few things we could improve on and today the discipline was better and we were great.

"We went in at half-time knowing we had more in us, we came out with more confidence and played in the right areas.

"I'm very proud of the boys, we're prepared to go to the well for each other and everyone's prepared so well."

I'm not sure what to say to be honest. I was nervous but fair play to Wales they've swept Australia aside.

Without doubt Wales have played the perfect performance for the circumstances, maybe we didn't get the tries but Wales dominated the game completely.

The scrum was superb, the lineout was superb and Wales played the game in the right places.

  7. 'We played really well' - Daviespublished at 22:00 British Summer Time 24 September 2023

    FT: Wales 40-6 Australia

Wales scrum-half Gareth Davies on S4C: "We performed really well, we've worked very hard since the Portugal game and fair play to the forwards they performed really well.

"Jac Morgan went through from the line and I was just hoping he'd turn towards me, I always run those lines and he found me.

"Dan Biggar going off was a shame but Gareth Anscombe has been training superbly and I was confident he would step in seamlessly as he did."

It has been building for a long time with the work they've put in.

I know I shouldn't enjoy writing this, but it's Australia's biggest ever World Cup defeat, the first time they've lost two World Cup games in succession in 36 years and it's now looking almost certain it will be the first time they haven't progressed past the pool stage.

    Eek.

  12. Man of the Matchpublished at 21:51 British Summer Time 24 September 2023

    FT: Wales 40-6 Australia

A few of our pundits thought it would be Gareth Davies but his half-back partner Gareth Anscombe is deservedly named man of the match.

He stepped into the breach to replace Dan Biggar after just ten minutes and steered Wales to a record win - and 23 points.

Amazing to think he had never scored in the World Cup before tonight!
