The intentions are obviously good but it's hard to tackle isn't it? With the pressure, the intensity, the size of these players, it's fractions of seconds and a matter of centimetres between perfect and a spot in the bin.

Siya Kolisi's head looks to hit the ball then hit Ardie Savea's head.

It is an immediate yellow, but it is possibly a red.

South Africa's captain Siya Kolisi is now shown a yellow card for another high challenge! The sides are level with 14 men each for the next 10 at least...

    Dropped it!

South Africa kick it to the corner, Kurt-Lee Arendse does brilliantly to gather it at full pace but then can't get the ball grounded.

It slips from his grasp and goes dead. How big could that be?

South Africa are making the most of New Zealand's mistakes and the Springboks are riding their luck at the minute.

There may be more flamboyant and entertaining sides around but it's probably hard to argue about South Africa being the best team in the world just now. They are on top in just about every aspect of the game. The scrum, the line-out, the breakdown, the kicking game. They're all over the All Blacks.

Lesley: I'm assured by the South African fans I know that everyone wanted Pollard in the squad from the get go but he was on the injured list.

But it was very good defence from the All Blacks.

    New Zealand 6-12 South Africa

Goodness me South Africa nearly score a try straight away! New Zealand juggle a high ball, Siya Kolisi picks it up and punches through a gap. He delays his pass a second too long and eventually Jordie Barrett somehow holds up his man on the line.

Brilliant defence from the centre, not for the first time as Ireland can attest.

It's easy, and normal maybe to focus on the big picture but Sam Came is 31, he might not feature in a World Cup again, and the captain has been sent off in the first half.

Imagine that. Imagine what he's going to be going through for the next 40 minutes, never mind the next 40 years.

    Tough call.

Andrew: A long way back for the All Blacks, but we've all seen enough rugby to know that sometimes teams play better with 14-men and some opposition play worse with an extra man.

No team has ever come back from behind at half-time to win a World Cup final.

That's the scale of the challenge that faces the All Blacks. South Africa are looking good for that momentous fourth title and a second back-to-back...

Handre Pollard is a man for the big moments.

In South Africa’s 2019 World Cup triumph he fired over a 76th-minute penalty to beat Wales in the semi-finals before kicking 22 points in the final against England.

So far this World Cup he has kicked two high pressure penalty kicks - both from halfway.

The first knocked out hosts France in a titanic quarter-final before an even later penalty in the 77th minute of the semi-final broke England's hearts.

Australia’s Matt Burke holds the record for most penalties kicked in a Rugby World Cup final with seven against France in 1999.

    Pollard has four so far.

Wayne Barnes awards a red cardImage source, Getty Images

Dave: It's a big call sending off a captain in a World Cup final - it was also the right one, you could never argue that Cane's actions weren't dangerous.

Chris: Huge decision by Barnes and the TMO team. I feel sorry for Cane, but if we want this brilliant sport to be safe, we've got to reduce the number of head contacts and penalise harshly those that infringe. As such, it's the right decision.

Mark: Rules are rules but a red card? It was a rugby incident? That's the game.

New Zealand jog down the tunnel, led by scrum-half Aaron Smith.

They have all the work to do and plans to cook up.

South Africa have a six-point lead and PHD in closing out games against 15 men, never mind 14.

These things happen, but I do not like that red.

The Eben Etzebeth penalty, he knows what he is doing that is a yellow card.

The only good thing to come from the red is that the All Blacks have been woken up, they have tried to play cute rugby but South Africa have eaten them up.

The All Blacks are playing a lot more physical now.
