What a lot of guff being spoken about the red card. Cane knows exactly what he is doing - which is hitting an opponent's head.

Ironic that the tackle for which New Zealand are down to 14 is on the same player - Kriel - who wasn't even shown yellow for a much worse tackle against Scotland! Inconsistent.

Richie Mo'unga clips the kick through the posts and keeps the scoreline ticking over. That will help.

What a tackle that was by Kurt-Lee Arendse. He ripped the ball out at full stretch.

For the second time the All Blacks are close to scoring in the corner with a penalty advantage!

Rieko Ioane loses the ball in a tackle but it will come back for the kick.

I thought there were mitigating factors, but when you see it in slow motion it is a red.

In real speed there is not a lot different that Sam Cane could have done.

    New Zealand 3-12 South Africa

Just like four years ago against England, South Africa are taking this final away from their opponents.

The All Blacks need a try. Or some points anyway as they have the ball in the right half.

I have got to say that is really disappointing for the final. I feel desperately sorry for Sam Cane.

A hearty roar from the South Africa supporters as Handre Pollard keeps up his immaculate record from the tee.

South Africa have a nine-point lead and will have a one-man advantage for more than 40 minutes of this final. It's looking ominous.

Sam Cane's yellow card has been upgraded to red.

There is a high degree of danger with no mitigation. Sam Cane is the first man to see red in a World Cup final.

These things happen. I was a tall guy, he is running into you as much as the other way round.

It is high and only a yellow card for me.

  12. Penalty to South Africapublished at 33 mins

    New Zealand 3-9 South Africa

Damian Willemse tries a drop goal from about 45 metres out, it's too short but South Africa keep the stranglehold on and captain Siya Kolisi forces another penalty.

The microphones, the referees, the TMOs, the communication, the handling of situations. It's all so good.

Not that hard is it, football?

Sulaimon: I must say the English referee is doing very well and has been spot on with his decisions in this pressure cooker atmosphere. Brilliant officiating so far!!!

From ground level it was obviously a high tackle, the mitigating factor is I think Jesse Kriel changed direction when he ran into Sam Cane.

Cane then got caught out and also Kriel was dipping.

If South Africa can make this next eight minutes count and extend their lead they'll be in a very good place at half time. Ideally they want a try and Kurt-Lee Arense chases a kick through in the corner but the ball is too heavy!

That looked grim on the big screen in the Stade de France.

The South Africa fans are vocal and don't think they should or will be seeing Sam Cane again in this final.

A 14-man All Blacks side lost a pre-tournament warm-up match against the Boks by a record 35-7 scoreline at Twickenham a couple of months back...

New Zealand’s Ben Smith was the only player to have ever received a card in a World Cup final prior to tonight. He was shown yellow against Australia in 2015 at Twickenham.

New Zealand have had two in the first half hour.

I have got to say nobody wants a red card in a final, even as a Springbok supporter. It is a yellow card though.
