Brilliant heads up rugby. They saw a little gap but it's inevitable in that area of play Canada are so physically strong up front and they've got threats all over the field so it's a really hard place to defend.

Brilliant play from Canada. They're a team of athletes.

However Canada can also do a job in the scrum and have won another penalty five metres out from the Welsh line.

I agree Alecs. Canada look so dangerous when they give it some width.

Wales need to have a look at their defence.

Canada are creating that overlap but Wales need to trust the inside player and create a little bit of width in their defence.

Canada's wings combine again, this time it's Maude Lachance coming into the line off the right to create space for Florence Symonds.

Symonds out-paces the first tackler but her pass inside hits Wales wing Lisa Neumann in the face and the ball is out.

Well that's one way to save a try!

Oh there's been a nasty clash of heads between Wales lock Georgia Evans and Canada scrum-half Olivia Apps.

Surely they will have to go off for a head injury assessment.

Well you have to give Wales huge credit there.

Sophie de Goede again takes it on but Wales hold out.

Canada look like they have settled in to the second half a lot quicker than Wales, they look more confident than Wales do.

Wales hold out - for now but only just.

There's another penalty coming for Canada and they go for the corner again.

    Canada 21-17 Wales

Wow. Canada's pack have just put in a huge collective shove and just pushed Wales off the scrum to win a penalty.

That will have been humbling for the Wales forwards.

Canada go for the corner and it's looking ominous for Wales.

The Welsh defence seem a little bit disconnected going in to the second half you've got some that are flying trying to add pressure to the ball and then some that are edging out wide.

  16. Close!published at 42 mins

    Canada 21-17 Wales

Oh Shoshanah Seumanutafa thought she was in then but the long pass from Alexandra Tessier just gets caught in the breeze and it's judged forward. Otherwise it was a walk in!

Claire Gallagher slips through a gap.

She's bac on her feet and delivers a perfect cross-field kick to Sarah-Maude Lachance.

Jasmine Joyce covers but Canada still on the attack.

We highlighted Canada's back-row trio of Gabrielle Senft, Sara Svoboda and Sophie de Goede and they are proving the difference at the moment.

Florence Symonds also looks dangerous every time she touches the ball but Wales have been dogged and have taken their two tries very well.

Game on for the second half!

Wales are running slightly on the edges at the moment, it's almost like they are quite lateral in their last phase of attack.

I'd love to see Kerin Lake hit the line hard and narrow that defence so the wingers have space on the outside.
