Have you had a chance to catch your breath yet? What a sensational game that was.

Scotland finally have their first win in Cardiff since 2002 - but only after surviving an almighty comeback from Wales.

Warren Gatland described the first half as the worst of his coaching career - and Wales really were terrible as they trailed 27-0 early in the second half.

Yet Gatland's youngsters still threatened to pull off one of the most remarkable wins of all time when they scored not one or two but four tries.

Ultimately it was all in vain but what entertainment it gave us.

So the opening weekend finishes with wins for Ireland, England and Scotland.

Scotland get next weekend's action started at home against France on Saturday, a mouthwatering encounter you can watch on BBC One.

Wales, meanwhile, will be at Twickenham to face England later that day. We'll have coverage of both those games, so we hope you can join us again.

Until then, thanks for joining us today and enjoy the rest of your evening. We're off to lie down!

Scotland were in third gear and then ended up in reverse! The tries we conceded were really soft.

The props carried well, I didn't think Ritchie did well, Crosbie carried relatively well but Matt Fagerson had one of his worst games in a Scotland shirt for a long time.

That game would have weeded out the Welsh players who were mentally weak if they didn't front up in the second half.

If they'd have lost by 40 or 50 points, there would have been a lot of players in the international abyss for a few years.

You thought it was going to spiral downhill badly when Duhan van der Merwe scored quickly at the start of the second half.

It was once Scotland showed a lack of discipline and got the yellow cards that Wales came out of their shells and started playing.

Scotland got away with it but, going forward, they've got a win on the road and key players like Blair Kinghorn, Rory Darge and Grant Gilchrist to come back.

  5. First half worst of my coaching career - Gatlandpublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

    FT: Wales 26-27 Scotland

Warren GatlandImage source, Huw Evans Picture Agency

Wales head coach Warren Gatland on S4C: "I think I can apologise for the first half, it's probably the worst first 40 performance in my whole rugby career as a coach.

"We were terrible, shocking. Discipline was poor, didn't nail some things, so the message at half-time was to do what we wanted to do in the first, bring some tempo, play with a bit of intensity and play some rugby, nothing flashy.

"I think some guys came off the bench and had some impact, we were so slow in the first half, things like opportunities for quick taps to get us back in the game.

"When you don't nail some lineouts and give away stupid penalties, the Josh Adams one was dumb and when you think about it, that's the difference between winning and losing the game.

"The players should be disappointed with the first half but proud for the second half that they didn't throw the towel in and could have won the game."

Great comeback but should a high tackle at the end resulted in a welsh penalty.

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend on BBC One: "It's a funny one. A lot of our players are disappointed and we're trying to say to them this is an important win for the next few weeks of the championship, but also in terms of not winning here for so long.

"We were disappointed with the game getting so close and it could have gone either way with the momentum Wales had in the second half.

"The penalty count went against us - that pressure will tell. There's more to it than that, but that put the pressure on us, and then we didn't make the best decisions.

"Wales also played really well, I thought they were good in their close-quarter exchanges.

"The atmosphere was tremendous, we heard lots of Scots in the first half and they were willing us on in the last two minutes which was amazing."

Quite a lot of fans will find Finn quite refreshing as captain. Not sugar coating the inaccuracies, being honest that they are disappointed and weren't their best.

    I thought it was brilliant.

The funny thing in having a lack of experience is you have no fear, Wales came out in the second half and they scrapped the playbook and played.

When they had momentum they kept playing that second half they made us proud.

That Duhan van der Merwe try at the start of the second half was so simple for Scotland it was embarrassing.

There was no enthusiasm in the kick chase from Wales and at that point you thought it was going to be a long long day.

Scotland captain Finn Russell tells BBC One:

"Probably a little bit disappointed to be honest. The win is brilliant but that second half was nowhere near where it needed to be.

"We played really well first half and controlled the game; second half our discipline was poor and two yellow cards allowed Wales back into the game.

"As happy as we are to win, that's not a performance that we need, especially the second half.

"When we scored that try at the start of the second half we probably got a bit complacent to be honest and thought the game was done.

"Fair play to Wales, they came back and put us under a lot of pressure. The pleasing thing was that at the end of the game we managed to hold them out.

"A lot of positives but we need to be a lot better."

Wales captain Dafydd Jenkins on BBC: "It's an extremely disappointing result but I'm incredibly proud of the boys in the second half, we could have given up but we showed good fight.

"We hadn't played any rugby in the first half and our penalty count was too high, second half we sped up the ball a lot and we have a young team with no fear and we'll look to build from this.

"This Scotland team is one of the best but I'm still extremely disappointed."

Scotland's discipline was shocking in the second half.

They will feel good tomorrow but if they had lost it how would they have felt? To lose after being 27-nil up against, let's be honest, a rubbish Welsh side.

I feel terrible and we won so I can't imagine how the players must be feeling.

Wales wing Josh Adams on S4C: "Half time that game could have been a bad score had we continued the way we were going.

"Second half we tried to play with tempo and get at Scotland. We were too complacent in the first half, kicked too much when we could have played.

"We wanted to play with the ball a bit more in the second half after not throwing anything against Scotland in the first half.

"The boys from the bench made a huge impact on the game and got us right back in the game, hopefully we can carry that on to next week."

Pick the bones out of that one.

The changes Warren Gatland made at half-time, Tomos Williams coming on along with Ioan Lloyd and with those two you knew the game had to break up.

It's one thing saying you want the game to break up, it's another thing to do it.

Tomos Williams was fantastic, Aaron Wainwright was man of the match, his ball carrying from kick-offs, ball handling was superb.

You saw Finn Russell getting rattled, Scotland getting rattled and you didn't see that happening at half-time. What a game!
