I predicted changes and Ioan Cunningham is wasting no time at all.

It will be great to see what local girl Gwennan Hopkins can do with a bit of time this week.

The young number eight showed her class with a try on her debut in Cork last weekend and has been mentioned in the same breath as the great Sioned Harries.

Oh Joyce clearly hadn't warmed up her hands before coming on.

Wales go through the phases and were building nicely but the wing knocks on an easy pass deep inside French territory.

  3. Replacements: Walespublished at 48 mins

    Wales 0-26 France

Wales turn to experienced pair Jaz Joyce and Keira Bevan.

    And young back-row Gwennan Hopkins.

Her try-scoring debut was quite literally the only good thing about last week's loss in Ireland.

France have obviously done their reviews in the first half. They talked about some areas where they think they can take advantage, and their implementing that straight away.

    That's the bonus.

Wales looked to have held out from the initial scrum with Sian Jones' tackle.

But France are so alive to any possibility and one zipped pass from Bourdon Sansus to Vernier sees the centre step through some weak tackles to score between the posts.

Points are going to be huge for Wales, they've got to get something on the board when you consider last campaign.

Not only did they get those three wins they were bonus point wins as well.

It's a stark contrast unfortunately to the form we are seeing in this current Six Nations.

Just a reminder of the table before kick-off.

Wales are five points behind Italy so could do with taking something from this game, otherwise they will need maximum points next week and deny Italy anything.

Can Wales turn possession and territory into some points?

It's so important Wales start this second half well.

They must have had a stern talk in Cork last weekend, but conceded straight from the re-start with a charged down kick.

They just need a bit confidence and momentum and they could get back on track.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ioan Cunningham makes some early changes. Keira Bevan is chomping at the bit to get on.

Alex Callender is a great leader, she's really evolved her game she's always flirted on the edge of caution around the penalty count.

Her evolution has been to reign that in, work with the referee not against the referee and that's really paying dividends for Wales.

  11. First half statspublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 21 April

    Who says stats don't lie?

Wales have led both territory AND possession 69% to 31%.

They've made more than twice the number of carries as France (78-27), made more metres (358-327) and a third of the number of tackles (25-97).

    Yet they're trailing 19-0!

I guess that's the only stat that really counts.

This week it was announced a £3m grant will aim to ensure the first British & Irish Lions women's team are not England in all but name.

The Lions will go on a historic first tour, to New Zealand, in 2027.

But there are concerns over the potential balance of the squad, with England having won 17 of the last 25 Five or Six Nations titles.

As a result, Lions sponsors Royal London are to provide funding to try to develop players and coaches in all the home nations.

Funding will be given to Wales, Scotland and Ireland, as well as England, to try to "level the playing field".

The Welsh Rugby Union said the new funding from Royal London will pay for five new staff members to bolster its women's pathway coaching, including a performance coach, set-piece and skills coaches, and a head of physical development.

It will also invest in programmes aimed at identifying talent, including players outside the country who qualify to represent Wales.

WRU executive director of rugby Nigel Walker said: "This is vital and welcome funding which we will make full use of in a way that will have an immediate, direct and positive impact on our performance pathway in the women's game.

"We will focus on talent identification and growth as well as bringing in significant new additional coaching, development and science-based support."

End of a scrappy half that will leave Wales frustrated that they're quite so far behind.

Oh Alex Callender was almost in then.

France's Achilles heel today has been the lineout, they've already lost three.

Carys Phillips picks off an over-throw and from the resulting breakdown, Callender was almost over but couldn't hold onto the pass that was slightly behind her.

France have play makers all over the field, sometimes they just make it look that easy.

They are so athletic but still have that strength and that power game.

Wales will be ever so aware of the clock coming up to half time, they've got to get something on the board.
