    FT: Edinburgh 20-21 Gloucester

Well, that was a bit disappointing day for Scottish rugby fans.

Glasgow lose by two points to Exeter, Edinburgh by a mere point to Gloucester.

However, the door is not closed in European progression. Glasgow host Toulon next week while Edinburgh travel to Wales to face the Scarlets.

Right everyone, we'll see you through the week for that Scotland squad announcement.

    And away...

  2. 'Our accuracy and execution wasn't there'published at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

    FT: Edinburgh 20-21 Gloucester

Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt tells BBC Scotland:

"The guys played with a lot of energy - both teams went at it hammer and tongs.

"Unfortunately our accuracy and execution wasn't there, and our composure in tight situations let us down.

"There were 20 turnovers and most of them were unforced - we paid heavily for that tonight, and hopefully it will be a learning point for the guys.

"We didn't look after the kick-off [after we went in front]. It's not all doom and gloom - we just have to get a win at Scarlets next week.

"There's no easy games in Europe. We just have to take this on the chin and move on."

  4. 'It was helter-skelter'published at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

    FT: Edinburgh 20-21 Gloucester

Gloucester head coach George Skivington on Viaplay: "It's a good Edinburgh team, full of internationals, and the boys had to dog it out.

"We haven't been winning enough in the Prem, so we've gone back to basics - kicking, set-piece.

"I'm glad we came and did a team run here yesterday because I didn't realise how open it is.

"It felt like as soon as we got momentum, they took it from us, and then we'd get it back. It was helter-skelter, ding-dong."

  5. Player of the Match - Jack Clement (Gloucester)published at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

    FT: Edinburgh 20-21 Gloucester

Gloucester flanker Jack Clement has been named Player of the Match, and has been talking to Viaplay:

"Playing for this club, the fanbase is amazing. To bring so many to Edinburgh is amazing, and I'm glad we could win for them tonight.

"It was a tight contest the whole way through - we stuck in there to the end and got the win, so it's great.

"Fair play to our nines and tens, their kicks were on the money all day long. We've had a tough period recently, but we went back to our fundamentals - that was the plan.

"We're three from three in Europe - long may it continue."

Gloucester showed spirit to stick in there, and then Louis Rees-Zammit's brilliance opened things up.

Edinburgh got their game together and Gloucester looked a bit ragged, but then some fantastic work got Zach Mercer over, and they showed good presence of mind to get over the line.

    Former Scotland lock on Viaplay

Edinburgh just squandered a few chances close to the line. I'm watching the Gloucester celebrations. It might not seem like a huge win - they're going well in this tournament - but it's been a tough twelve months for this club.

This Edinburgh team are a very good team. This was a showcase for Gregor Townsend, who was here tonight, looking at the 50-50 calls.

  8. Full-time Edinburgh 20-21 Gloucesterpublished at 19:14 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January

They've done it! Gloucester go three from three in the EPCR Challenge Cup and they're heading for the knock-out stages.

That win came from the boot of Adam Hastings, and the pace of Louis Rees-Zammit. Hastings kicked two penalties and then slotted the all-important conversion.

Edinburgh were just too ill-disciplined, and despite scores from Glen Young, Ewan Ashman and Ben Vellacott, they lost by the slimmest possible margin.

    What a game.

Adam Hastings' conversion sneaked through by the skin of its teach to give Gloucester the lead.

The home crowd give him a bit of stick to say luck was on his side and the Scotland international responds with the time-honoured "shoosh" gesture.

    You've got to love it!

  10. converted try

Converted try Edinburgh 20-21 GLOUCESTERpublished at 74 mins

    Zach Mercer

Chaotic rugby as Gloucester burst through with Stephen Varney. They go from their own half up all the way to Edinburgh's 5m line as they offload again and again.

Louis Rees-Zammit had numbers outside but he jinks back inside. The phases continue... and Zach Mercer eventually crashes over.

Hastings squeezes it through! This game DOES have the drama we wanted!

    Edinburgh 20-14 Gloucester

The bad news for Edinburgh is Mark Bennett will have to go off injured. He's replaced by James Lang.

Hamish Watson is also replaced, after a gargantuan performance. Tom Dodd replaces him.

What a swing there's been since the hour mark. Edinburgh were six behind - now they're six ahead.

    Ben Vellacott

The maul doesn't work but Ben Vellacott - also freshly on - keeps the tempo up from the back of the ruck.

Mark Bennett runs a brilliant line but crashes into the bottom of the post. It's a nasty looking one, but Vellacott doesn't wait around and dots down.

Biting the hand that used to feed him!

Ben Healy has his kick right in front of the sticks, and duly knocks it over.

Edinburgh are gifted a chance to get down the pitch when Darcy Graham is taken out during a kick-chase.

Ewan Ashman's throw is pinched by Zach Mercer, but Edinburgh win it back again! Healy kicks through and Louis Rees-Zammit wins the race against Harry Paterson.

Another Edinburgh throw on the 5m line.

    Ewan Ashman

Edinburgh's maul rumbles towards the lines from pretty far out, with the hosts handed the advantage. This is a great opportunity for the posts, but Ben Healy goes to the corner.

The maul is going again and it's Ewan Ashman, fresh on the pitch, who scores in the corner! It's a brilliant finish from the young hooker.

Healy lamps the kick out wide, but it's not on target.

  15. Penalty Edinburgh 8-14 GLOUCESTERpublished at 57 mins

    Adam Hastings

The clearouts are not good enough from Edinburgh. Marshall Sykes makes a good carry but Grant Gilchirst misses the jackler - George McGuigan in this case - and Gloucester win the penalty.

Hastings steps up... it kisses the inside of the post and goes through. Gloucester stretch their lead.

  16. Penalty Edinburgh 8-11 GLOUCESTERpublished at 53 mins

    Adam Hastings

Bill Mata gets his legs pumping from the restart but Lewis Ludlow wraps him up in the ruck. Disaster for Edinburgh, who lose the clearout and concede a penalty.

Here is Adam Hastings... and it is the perfect response.

  17. Penalty EDINBURGH 8-8 Gloucesterpublished at 52 mins

    Ben Healy

Edinburgh get a shot of energy after Darcy Graham's superb take in the air which gets them about 50 yards up the pitch.

They go through the phases, with Ben Healy keen to use the hands, and eventually win a penalty when Jack Clement is pinged for hands in the ruck.

Can Healy do better from the tee this time? Yes he can. The scores are level.

We haven't seen it for quite a while, but that is breath-taking pace from Louis Rees-Zammit.

A one-man show - he shows his ability to spot space and exploit it.

    Louis Rees-Zammit

    And Gloucester make Edinburgh pay!

Eventually, after the commentators had been complaining, the visistors get the ball into Rees-Zammit's hands and he glides by Mark Bennett and Harry Paterson.

It's a frankly unbelievable finish from a world class player.

    Unfortunately, Hastings misses the kick.

  20. Missed penaltypublished at 44 mins

    Edinburgh 5-3 Gloucester

Seb Atkinson is pinged for offside, and he's not even in the contact! Ben Healy asks for the tee, wise decision.

However, he uncharacteristically puts his kick wide. Edinburgh need to stretch this lead.
